Nowadays, utility has started to consider the green power technology for having a healthier environment. The green power technologies reduce combustion of fossil fuels and the consequent CO2 emission which is the principle cause of global warming. By maximising the use of the renewable energy, the usage of diesel generator for powering the base transceiver stations could be reduced or removed. This paper aims to investigate the economic, technical and environmental performance of various hybrid power systems for powering remote telecom. Simulations using Hybrid Optimisation Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) software are performed to determine the Initial Capital, the Total Net Present Cost (TNPC), the Cost of Energy (COE) as well as the system Capacity Shortage of the different supply options. The simulation results suggest a suitable hybrid system which would be the feasible solution for generation of electric power for remote telecom. A detailed analysis, description and modelling of the system are also presented in this paper.

This chapter recalls the load profiling principles and the main differences that appear in applying load profiling to a set of consumers smaller than for classical load profiling conducted at a large-scale level. In the prospect of application to local energy markets, the current load profiling setup is not fully adequate to support the challenging aspects due to the operation of prosumers with local generation and storage. The scopes of load profiling have to be revisited and updated to a more appropriate framework of prosumer profiling. The chapter points out the main objectives of prosumer profiling linked to local energy systems and markets, which include segmentation, forecasting, load balancing, and demand response/flexibility. The load profiling principles are recalled, together with the timing and amplitude aspects relevant to the creation of a comparable set of patterns, including normalization issues and data alignment. Finally, the chapter discusses the needs and opportunities referring to prosumer profiling in local energy markets, also considering multienergy systems, the challenges concerning net power analysis, and the role of uncertainty in the definition of the prosumer profiles.

This paper aims to develop and update the methodology for calculating the stress to which the internal insulation of power transformer is subjected during lightning impulse test. Power transformer internal isolation consists of insolating intervals of oil impregnated paper, transformer board and oil. In whole, the transformer's insulation must withstand the voltage testing levels prescribed by the standards. One of the methods for determining the internal stress of various parts of the power transformer's insulation is by using mathematical models.

Calculation methods for lightning impulse voltage distribution in power transformers

The first part of the paper present the main sources of distributed generation. The second part includes the simulation of a system consisting of wind turbines, solar panels, storage batteries and diesel generators. The simulation are performed using Homer program, which is a computer modeling program of electrical systems, involving various nonconventional energy sources, and RETScreen program which gives climatic data. As a result use of hybrid renewable energy systems is more advantageous than using a single source of renewable energy.HOMER software is proving to be an effective and flexible instrument for simulation of hybrid power systems based on renewable energy sources.

Simulation of a Distributed Generation System Using Specialized Programs

In recent decades the theoretical and experimental study of transient phenomena regarding power transformers has experienced a great development. Results of these studies allowed the elucidation of the main theoretical and practical aspects of the transient phenomena due to propagation of impulse voltages inside the transformers. These studies increased the safe operation of power transformer and led to the introduction of rational insulation usage and also helped to develop efficient protection measures.

Transient phenomena in power transformers theoretical and practical approach

in this paper is presented a method of modeling the transient phenomena which occur in power transformers winding during lightning impulse voltage test. From the modeling point of view the power transformer winding is without iron core. The equivalent circuit diagram and its parameters (equivalent capacities, self and mutual inductances, conductance and electrical resistances.) are determined using methods depending on transformer electrical characteristics and geometry. In the last part of the article there are presented a series of modeling and measurements results performed on a autotransformer.
