Journal ArticleDOI

CFD simulation of mixing in anaerobic digesters.

TL;DR: A three-dimensional CFD model incorporating the rheological properties of sludge was developed and applied to quantify mixing in a full-scale anaerobic digester and the results were found to be in good agreement with experimental tracer response curve.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of low pH conditions on decay of methanogenic biomass.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that one of the causes for the digester failure under low pH conditions is due to accelerated decay of methanogenic biomass, which is relatively common in anaerobic digesters that receive readily biodegradable food wastes at high loading.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of diffuser bubble size in computational fluid dynamics models to predict oxygen transfer in spiral roll aeration tanks

TL;DR: In this paper, the volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficient (KLa) was calculated for different types of diffusers, which is a critical parameter in the CFD simulations, and the results indicated that the coarse-bubble diffusers have bubble sizes of 7-8mm, 5-6-mm, and approximately 3-mm.
Journal ArticleDOI

CFD Investigation of the Effect of the Feed Spacer on Hydrodynamics in Spiral Wound Membrane Modules

TL;DR: In this paper, a pillar-like feed spacer was designed to achieve area contact, which made it possible to enhance the porosity and minimize the adverse effects from the dead zone caused by the transverse filament.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetic analysis of biological degradation for tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) in the anaerobic activated sludge system at ambient temperature

TL;DR: In this paper, an anaerobic process in ambient temperature composed of a suspended sludge reactor and subsequent two gravity thickeners with addition of flocculants was elaborated.
