Quadcopter drones and other unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAV’s) have become common-place and their use is widespread among consumers and professionals in numerous industries. Aerial imagery and video can provide useful perspectives and have great value in communicating progress, for use in documentation of site activity and for use in marketing services. Drones, either through imagery or LIDAR, can further provide quick and accurate surveying information, which is valuable for positioning of facilities and activities. LIDAR data can also be used effectively for quality control and for quantity measurement. Imagery also has further applications in safety evaluation, productivity improvement, security and real-time job-site monitoring. Such additional uses have the potential for making a real impact on successful project delivery while increasing and competitiveness. Progressive construction companies and service providers throughout the globe recognize this potential and see significant promise for tangible return on investment. This paper will evaluate these opportunities for quadcopters and other UAV’s based on experiences of the authors in using drones in Dubai and in the United States. Development of Augmented Reality Applications for the Entire Spectrum of Screw Compressor Manufacturing Process

--- This study aimed to clarify the role of talent management in the development of technological competencies as the mediating role of information technology. The study population consisted of the Jordanian private universities, where the application was applied to a sample that included a group of (department manager, human resources manager, department head, and administrative employee). The researcher relied on the quantitative approach in collecting primary data by making a questionnaire, developing it and distributing it to the Jordanian private universities. The hypotheses were analyzed and tested using appropriate statistical methods and the use of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The final sample amounted to (220) questionnaires. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which is that there is a statistically significant effect at the level of significance (α≥0.05) for talent management in developing the technological competencies. One of the most important recommendations of the study is the keenness to use appropriate advertising media in identifying talented people.

Purpose
This study describes how maintenance capability should be created during the design and construction phases of construction projects. Purpose of the abstract to define the elements for creating the maintenance capability and the process to be used in construction life cycle projects for buildings.


Design/methodology/approach
An inductive and qualitative research method was used to construct the proposed process based on the literature and 18 interviews in two large construction companies.


Findings
The results indicate that the maintenance phase is usually overlooked during the design and construction phases, and capabilities are not systematically built. In particular, processes are lacking in data management, causing severe problems in maintenance.


Originality/value
This study presents a process including key requirements and activities for creating maintenance capability in conjunction with the design and construction phases, which is novel to the literature. The validated process can be adapted based on the needs of the construction company.

Maintenance capability creation for buildings – concurrent process with design and construction

With various emerging technologies and integration possibilities, smart facility management has gained wide interest in recent years. Several technologies were introduced to support facilities management and improve decision-making, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twin (DT), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain. Yet, facility managers still face challenges related to data handling and the actual implementation of these technologies. Thus, this paper explores the trends and integration possibilities of smart facilities management technologies to provide a deeper understanding of the current research state and the areas for future exploration. The Scopus database is utilized to collect literature data, and a bibliometric analysis is conducted on 7236 publications of different types, including conference publications, articles, reviews, and book chapters, using VOSviewer software. The results revealed a noticeable growth in the annual number of publications related to this field after 2018. BIM, IoT, and DT were seen to share the greatest research attention, with BIM being the dominant technology. With recent wide attention, blockchain technology is noticed to be introducing many integration possibilities. In addition, the prominent contributing authors, countries, and sources to this research area are also identified.

Enabling Technologies and Recent Advancements of Smart Facility Management

Current facility management (FM) practices are inefficient and ineffective, partially because of missing information and communication issues. Information and communications technologies (ICT) are asserted to provide a promising solution for managing and operating facilities. However, the impact of ICT applications on current FM practices needs to be validated and the perception of FM professionals on ICT-based FM needs to be understood. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the impacts and the perception of ICT application on FM practice and further develop an ICT-based integrated framework for smart FM practices.,To achieve the objective, the research starts with reviewing several promising ICT for FM, including building information modeling, geographic information systems, unmanned aerial vehicle and augmented reality. On this basis, a conceptional framework was synthesized in consideration of the benefits of each technology. A survey questionnaire to FM professionals was conducted to evaluate the proposed framework and identify the challenges of adopting ICT in the FM industry. Furthermore, return on investment and strength, weakness, opportunities and threats analysis have been used in this paper as evaluation methods for ICT industry adoption.,The survey results are validated by FM professionals for the future engagement of the integrated ICT applications. Also, the proposed framework can assist the decision-makers to have comprehensive information about facilities and systematize the communication among stakeholders.,This research provides an integrated framework for smart FM to improve decision-making, capitalizing on the ICT applications. Apart from this, the study sheds light on future research endeavors for other ICT applications.
