Modern industry 4.0 applications are shifting towards decentralized automation of computing and cyber-physical systems (CPS), which necessitates building a robust, secure, and efficient system that performs complex interactions with other physical processes. To handle complex interactions in CPS, trust and consensus among various stakeholders is a prime concern. In a similar direction, consensus algorithms in blockchain have evolved over the years that focus on building smart, robust, and secure CPS. Thus, it is imperative to understand the key components, functional characteristics, and architecture of different consensus algorithms used in CPS. Many consensus algorithms exist in the literature with a specified set of functionalities, performance, and computing services. Motivated from these facts, in this survey, we present a comprehensive analysis of existing state-of-the-art consensus mechanisms and highlight their strength and weaknesses in decentralized CPS applications. In the first part, we present the scope of the proposed survey and identify gaps in the existing surveys. Secondly, we present the review method and objectives of the proposed survey based on research questions that address the gaps in existing studies. Then, we present a solution taxonomy of decentralized consensus mechanisms for various CPS applications. Then, open issues and challenges are also discussed in deploying various consensus mechanisms in the CPS with their merits and demerits. The proposed survey will act as a road-map for blockchain developers and researchers to evaluate and design future consensus mechanisms, which helps to build an efficient CPS for industry 4.0 stakeholders.

A Survey on Decentralized Consensus Mechanisms for Cyber Physical Systems

A good comprehensive study of the electromagnetic properties of biological layers is important since we cannot discuss an implantable antenna design without investigating the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with the tissue. The human body is not an ideal medium for the transmission of radio waves which can be considered as a barrier degrading the performance of the transmission system that uses the human body as a propagation channel. This paper deals with some notions of electromagnetic characteristics of body tissues and their dependency to the frequency.

Parametric study on the dielectric properties of biological tissues

The purpose of this paper is to design a microstrip rectangular antenna in Advance Design System Momentum (ADS). The resonant frequency of antenna is 4.1GHz. The reflection coefficient is less than −10dB for a frequency range of 3.1GHz to 5.1 GHz. The proposed rectangular patch antenna has been devise using Glass Epoxy substrate (FR4) with dielectric constant (er = 4.4), loss tangent (tan δ) equal to 0.02. This rectangular patch is excited using transmission lines of particular length and width. Various parameters, for example the gain, S parameters, directivity and efficiency of the designed rectangular antenna are obtained from ADS Momentum.

Design of rectangular microstrip patch antenna

Combined economic environmental dispatch problem (CEEDP) is one of the greatest challenges of the future smart grids. It aims at reducing the total cost during the power production process considering the growing environmental impact due to the emission of gaseous pollutants of fossil fuels. This study develops a robust distributed algorithm based on consensus protocols in multi-agent systems, to solve the smart grid CEEDP with a practical communication network consisting of a dynamic communication network, randomly communication failure, transmission delay and noise in communication channels. The proposed algorithm is fully distributed and cooperative in such a way that it eliminates the need for a central energy-management unit, or a leader. The performance of the fully decentralised consensus protocol was evaluated on the IEEE 30-bus and the IEEE 118-bus test system. A comparison with previous consensus algorithms proves the supremacy of the proposed approach in terms of its robustness under dynamic communication network with randomly link failure.

The Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is a technical of radio transmission which consists of using signals whose spectrum is spread out over a broad frequency band, typically ranging from MHz to several GHz frequencies. It was at first used for radar applications then applied in telecommunication applications, thus arousing a growing interest within the academic and industrial community. The present work is concerned with a research on UWB as a new technology for radar systems. Besides, it sheds light on the design of transmission system with broad ultra band an Agilent Advanced Design System modeling tool.
