TL;DR: The evolution of resistance to quinolones inEscherichia coli from 1992 to 1997 in Barcelona, Spain was studied to find out whether the high prevalence of QREC in the stools of healthy humans in the authors' area could be linked to thehigh prevalence of resistant isolates in poultry and pork.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carme Loras,Javier P. Gisbert,Miguel Minguez,Olga Merino,Luis Bujanda,Cristina Saro,E. Domènech,Jesus Barrio,Montserrat Andreu,Ingrid Ordás,L. Vida,Guillermo Bastida,Ferrán González-Huix,M Piqueras,Daniel Ginard,Xavier Calvet,Ana Gutiérrez,Agueda Abad,Miquel Torres,Julián Panés,María Chaparro,I. Pascual,Mónica Rodríguez-Carballeira,Fernando Fernández-Bañares,Josep Maria Viver,Maria Esteve +25 more

Journal ArticleDOI
Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients hospitalised for COPD exacerbation: a prospective study.
Carolina Garcia-Vidal,Pedro Almagro,V Romaní,Mónica Rodríguez-Carballeira,Eva Cuchi,Lydia Canales,D Blasco,J.L. Heredia,Javier Garau +8 more

Journal ArticleDOI
Invasive pneumococcal disease among children in a health district of Barcelona: early impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine
Esther Calbo,Á. Díaz,E. Cañadell,J. Fábrega,S. Uriz,M. Xercavins,M. A. Morera,Eva Cuchi,Mónica Rodríguez-Carballeira,Javier Garau +9 more
TL;DR: The rates of IPD in this area did not decrease following the introduction of HPCV and the low uptake of vaccine and the greater proportion of colonisation/infection by NVS probably explain these findings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for opportunistic infections in infliximab-treated patients: the importance of screening in prevention.
Carolina Garcia-Vidal,S. Rodríguez-Fernández,S. Teijón,Maria Esteve,Mónica Rodríguez-Carballeira,J. M. Lacasa,G Salvador,Javier Garau +7 more
TL;DR: The subset of patients treated with infliximab who had a higher risk for OI were identified and the screening of latent infections is key to diminishing the incidence of these infections.
