In spirit and content Sokolnikoff}s book differs greatly from each and all of these. It may be described by a possible sub-title: “A pure mathematician surveys topics related to certain problems in the mathematical theory of elasticity”. The purpose of this paper is to present a study of elastoplastic deformation in an isotropic material disk with shaft subjected to variable density and load using Seth’s transition theory. This theory includes classical macroscopic solving problems in plasticity, creep and relaxation and assumes semi-empirical yield conditions. It has been observed that the values of angular speed decreased with increases in the values of the density parameter for an incompressible material. Radial stress has the maximum value at the internal surface of the rotating disk made of incompressible material (i.e., rubber) as compared to the compressible materials (i.e., saturated clay and copper).

Elastoplastic deformation in an isotropic material disk with shaft subjected to load and variable density

We study the buckling of hemispherical elastic shells subjected to the combined effect of pressure loading and a probing force. We perform an experimental investigation using thin shells of nearly uniform thickness that are fabricated with a well-controlled geometric imperfection. By systematically varying the indentation displacement and the geometry of the probe, we study the effect that the probe-induced deflections have on the buckling strength of our spherical shells. The experimental results are then compared to finite element simulations, as well as to recent theoretical predictions from the literature. Inspired by a nondestructive technique that was recently proposed to evaluate the stability of elastic shells, we characterize the nonlinear load-deflection mechanical response of the probe for different values of the pressure loading. We demonstrate that this nondestructive method is a successful local way to assess the stability of spherical shells. [DOI: 10.1115/1.4038063]

Buckling of a Pressurized Hemispherical Shell Subjected to a Probing Force

The elastic–plastic stresses in a rotating disc of transversely isotropic material fitted with a shaft and subjected to thermal gradient has been analyzed by using Seth’s transition theory and generalized strain measure. It has been observed that disc made of beryl and magnesium materials requires higher angular speed to yield at the inner surface in comparison to the disc made of brass material. The radial stress has a maximum at the internal surface of the disc made of beryl, magnesium and brass materials, but circumferential stress neither maximum nor minimum at this surface. With the introduction of thermal effect, the value of circumferential stress has a maximum at the external surface of the disc made of the beryl and magnesium, but the reverse results are obtained for the disc made of brass material. The combined impacts of temperature and angular speed have been displayed numerically and depicted graphically.

Elastoplastic Deformation in an Orthotropic Spherical Shell Subjected to a Temperature Gradient

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most generally known neurodegenerative disorder, leading to a steady deterioration in cognitive ability. Deep learning models have shown outstanding performance in the diagnosis of AD, and these models do not need any handcrafted feature extraction over conventional machine learning algorithms. Since the 2012 AlexNet accomplishment, the convolutional neural network (CNN) has been progressively utilized by the medical community to assist practitioners to early diagnose AD. This paper explores the current cutting edge applications of CNN on single and multimodality (combination of two or more modalities) neuroimaging data for the classification of AD. An exhaustive systematic search is conducted on four notable databases: Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and PubMed in June 2021. The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of classification approaches on AD to analyze different kinds of datasets, neuroimaging modalities, preprocessing techniques, and data handling methods. However, CNN has achieved great success in the classification of AD; still, there are a lot of challenges particularly due to scarcity of medical imaging data and its possible scope in this field.
