A rotational angle detection device having two magnetoresistive sensing elements positioned at a 45° angle with respect to each other senses the rotary position of a permanent magnet. Sine and cosine waves are applied to first and second bridge circuits respectively incorporating the two sensing elements. The resulting bridge circuit outputs are differentially combined to provide an output whose phase relative to either of the input sine or cosine waves is dependent upon the rotational position of the permanent magnet. The phase difference is detected and the rotational position is calculated therefrom.

A rotational direction detection device is disclosed which has a single permanent magnet rotatable in response to the rotation of a rotary shaft. A magnetic field sensor is composed of a plurality of magnetic field detecting elements responsive to a rotating magnetic field produced by the rotation of the permanent magnet for generating an output representative of the rotation of the rotary shaft. The magnetic field detecting elements are arranged so that signals developed by at least two such elements differ in phase by a phase angle of other than 0 degree and 180 degrees. A rotary condition detector is responsive to the output of the magnetic field sensor for determining the rotational direction of the rotary shaft.

PURPOSE:To readily discriminate the rotating direction of a rotator with a simple device by detecting the revolutions of the leakage magnetic field of a permanent magnet interlocked to the revolving shaft of the rotator to be measured with a magnetic sensor and discriminating the rotating direction of the permanent magnet with a driving detection circuit from the detection output thereof. CONSTITUTION:The revolutions of the leakage magnetic field of one permanent magnet 2 which is mounted to the revolving shaft 1 revolving in cooperation to the revolving shaft of the rotator to be measured is detected with a magnetic sensor 4 composed of plural magnetic field detecting elements. After the output of the magnetic sensor 4 is amplified and waveform-shaped, the rotating direction of the permanent magnet 2 is judged in a driving detection circuit 5. The abovementioned magnetic sensor 4 and driving detection circuit 5 are disposed to the printed substrate 3 fixed to a case 6. The sensor 4 and driving detection circuit 5 are driven by the power supplied through the core of a part of the cable 8 and the result of the judgement of the rotating direction of the permanent magnet 2 is outputted to the remaining cores of the cable 8 and this is displayed in a display part 7.
