A compact of a reconfigurable rectangular microstrip slot patch antenna of operating frequencies in the range of (2–6) GHz is proposed for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. It has one port excited with microstrip line feed mechanism. The proposed antenna consists of a single layer patch antenna with two parallel slots designed that can be controlled via two PIN diode switches. Two parallel slots are incorporated to perturb the surface current path, introducing local inductive effect that is responsible for the excitation of the second resonant mode. By adjusting the status of the switches state either on or off mode in simultaneously, the resonance frequencies can be varied, thus achieving frequency reconfigurable. A comprehensive parametric study has been carried out to understand the effects of various dimensional parameters (slots and PIN diode switches) and to optimize the performance of the antenna. This antenna is capable to achieve return loss less than −10dB and VSWR≤2 in multiband frequencies at 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz when both switches are ON mode while only in 2.4GHz can be achieved when both switches are OFF mode. The designed antennas have been also fabricate onto FR-4 and measured to compare the real results of return loss (S 11 ) and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) with those obtained from the simulations. The proposed antenna is very promising for various modern communication applications.

A design of reconfigurable rectangular microstrip slot patch antennas

A compact rectangular slotted monopole antenna for ultra wideband (UWB) application is presented. The designed antenna has a simple structure and compact size of 25 × 26 mm

. This antenna consist of radiating patch with two steps and one slot introduced on it for bandwidth enhancement and a ground plane. Antenna is feed with 50Ω microstrip line. IE3D method of moments based simulation software is used for design and FR4 substrate of dielectric constant value 4.4 with loss tangent 0.02.

A compact UWB rectangular slotted monopole antenna

In this paper, a micro strip patch antenna has been presented displaying the ability to function in dual frequency. The proposed antenna is designed using one rectangular main microstrip patch and two slotted patches, which are connected to the main rectangular patch. This paper aims on operating the conventional microstrip rectangular patch antenna with dual frequency by etching multiple slots on the patch. The antenna is designed to operate at dual operating frequency of 2.39GHz∼3.15GHz and can be used for IOT (Internet of Things) applications. The measured gain of antenna without the connecting patches is 4.4dB but it increased to 5.01dB when it is connected with the slotted patches. The antenna is implemented using RT-duroid 5880 dielectric substrate. Ansoft HFSS is used to simulate the output. The results were analyzed and discussed in terms of return loss, radiation pattern and gain.

A compact dual band antenna for IOT applications

One of the many techniques for realizing a multi-band microstrip antenna is by cutting a slot inside the patch. The slot whose length is either quarter wave or half wave in length, when cut inside the patch introduces a mode near the patch frequency and realizes dual frequency response. However this simpler approximation of slot length against the frequency does not give closer results over the wide range of slot dimensions. In this paper, by studying the surface current distributions for slotted circular microstrip antennas, a formulation of resonant length for slot mode is proposed. The slot frequency calculated by using these proposed equations agrees well with the simulated results with an error of less than 5%.

Formulation of Resonance Frequency for Multi-Band Circular Microstrip Antennas

This paper presents a technique of microstrip patch antenna for S-band and C-band applications. In this proposed work the frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna with three slots on the ground is proposed. In this there are two switches (copper strip) are placed on the slot at the ground plane to produce three different frequency bands at 3.06, 3.26 for (S-Band) and 4.27 GHz(C-Band) respectively. The proposed antenna is simulated using FR-4 substrate with permittivity 4.1 and substrate thickness 1.5mm. The simulation of the proposed work is conducted with CST. The simulation result shows good directional radiation pattern and the directivity. The simulation result are indicating that the proposed antenna has good impedance matching at every band.

Design of frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna for S-Band and C-Band applications

A novel miniature wideband rectangular patch antenna is designed for wireless local area network (WLANs) applications and operating for 5-6 GHz ISM band, and wideband applications. The proposed antenna gives a bandwidth of 4.84 to 6.56 GHz for S11<-10dB. The antenna has the dimensions of 20 mm by 15 mm by 0.8 mm on FR4 substrate. Rectangular slot and step have been used for bandwidth improvement.
