In current years, pollution caused by synthetic dyes has become one of the most serious environmental issues. By rapidly developing industrial units, effluents having synthetic dyes are directly or indirectly being discharged into the environment. Bio-sorption is cost-effective way for the eradication of toxic dyes present in textile effluent. The present study involves the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles using Citrullus colocynthis stem extract. The characterization of synthesized nickel nanoparticles (Ni-NPs) was done by SEM. The synthesized Ni-NPs were used to degrade the Reactive Yellow 160 dye following the optimization of different experimental parameters. The maximum decolorization (91.4%) was obtained at 0.02% dye conc., 9 mg/L conc. of Ni-NPs, pH 7 at 40 °C. TOC and COD were used to assess the efficiency of this experiment. Percent reduction in COD and TOC was found to be 84.35% and 83.24% respectively. The degradation pathway of dye under study confirmed the formation of non-toxic end-products.

Synthesis of nickel nanoparticles using Citrullus colocynthis stem extract for remediation of Reactive Yellow 160 dye

In the present research work, low cost and eco-friendly copper nanoparticles were prepared by a reduction method using grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) peels extract as the reducing agent. The nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-visible and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The absorption peak at 525 nm in UV-visible spectrum indicated the nature of copper nanoparticles. SEM analysis showed the morphology and structure of copper nanoparticles. The nanoparticle size ranged from 56 to 59 nm. The synthesized copper nanoparticles were utilized for the decolorization of Disperse Yellow 125 dye following the optimization of reaction conditions concentration of dye and copper nanoparticles, concentration of dye and copper nanoparticles, pH, reaction time and temperature. The targeted dye was decolorized 73.5% at 0.01% concentration of dye, 0.05% copper nanoparticles concentration, and 6 pH at 50°C. The experimental results showed that COD and TOC removal efficiencies were 75.56% and 77.23%, respectively. The degradation pathway of the target dye was also studied.

Decolorization of various dyes by microorganisms and green-synthesized nanoparticles: current and future perspective

Our current study deals with the green synthesis of copper nanoparticles using extract of Labeo rohita fish scales. There is no need to add any external reducing and stabilizing agents as the gelatin found in fish scale extract possesses plenty of reducing and stabilizing properties. The synthesized copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) were characterized by Zeita sizer and SEM. Cu-NPs were applied to decolorize Reactive Blue 19 dye. Different experimental conditions like concentration of reactive Blue 19 dye, concentration of copper nanoparticles, pH and temperature were optimized. The degrading potential of copper nanoparticles increased their applicability for the decolorization of Reactive Blue 19 dye. Reactive Blue 19 dye was maximum decolorized (90.18%) at aconc. of 0.03%, 4 mg Cu-NPs, pH 10 at 50oC. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated by water quality assurance parameters such as total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The reaction products were characterized by FTIR spectral studies.
