PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mass-produce cellobiose at low cost without the need of any pretreatment by saccharification, in the presence of an enzyme cellulase, of bleached slash pulp as feedstock such as sulfite pulp having each specific water retention and freeness. SOLUTION: First, kraft slash pulp collectted in a wet state from a thickener after the cooking and bleaching processes for sulfite pulp derived from broadleaf tree materials is suspended in water and then beaten using e.g. a disintegrator to produce leached slash pulp 20-280% in water retention and 550-640ml in freeness. Next, the bleached slash pulp as feedstock is suspended in water into a 1% slurry, to which a cellulase produced by such bacteria as to belong to Sporotrichum, Trichoderma car Aspergillus is added as enzyme to carry out saccharification at pH5.0 at 50°C for a specified time, thus obtaining the objective cellobiose in large quantities at low cost without the need of any pretreatment of the feedstock cellulosic material. Production of cellobiose

PURPOSE: To obtain a new purine nucleoside derivative having antiviral activity even at low concentrations, having marked inhibitory effect esp. on Rous sarco ma virus and human immunodeficiency virus, and useful as e.g. an enzyme inhibitor for clinical tests. CONSTITUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I (R and R are each H, a halogen or amino; R is the same as R , OH or methoxy; * denotes an asymmetric carbon atom), e.g. (S)-9-(N-dichloroacetylpyrrolidinylmehtyl) adenine. The compound of formula I is obtained by the following process: D- or L-proline of formula II is reduced into D- or L-prolinol, respectively, and the amino group in the D- or L-prolinol is protected by dichloroacetyl group followed by tosylating the alcoholic OH group in the resultant compound to obtain a compound of formula III (Ts is p-toluenesulfonyl) followed by coupling a purine base with the compound of formula III.

New purine nucleoside derivative, its production and antiviral agent with the same as active ingredient

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new purine nucleoside derivative excellent in antiviral activity such as anti-human immune deficiency virus activity, low in toxicity, effective for treating and preventing a virus disease such as acquired immune deficiency syndrome. SOLUTION: A compound is shown by formula I (R1 is H, amino, a halogen, OH or methoxy; R2 is H, amino or a halogen; R3 is H or amino; * is an asymmetric carbon) or its salt such as (±)-2,6-diamino-9-(N-p-toluenesulfonyl- pyrrolidinyl-2-methyl)-purine. The compound of formula I is obtained by reducing a proline to give 2-hydroxymethylpyrrolidine, tosylating the compound to give a compound of formula II (Ts is p-toluenesulfonyl) and coupling the compound of formula II with a compound of formula III.
