A hybrid optimization approach for layout design of unequal-area facilities

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid optimization approach is presented for the layout design of unequal-area facilities, where simulated annealing is used to optimize a randomly generated initial placement on an "extended plane" considering the unequal area facilities enclosed in magnified envelop blocks, and an analytical method is applied to obtain the optimum placement of each envelop block in the direction of steepest descent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Automated layout of facilities of unequal areas

TL;DR: A concepto of “controlled convergence” is introduced t solve the problem of too rapid movement of the representative blocks to form a cluster by carrying out the optimization with the “envelop blocks” of sizes much larger than the actual facilities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear programming approach to automated topology

TL;DR: An analytical approach to the optimization of the topological configuration of a set of functional blocks is presented, expressing the overlapping of blocks as an inequality constraint in a formulation based on nonlinear optimization, so that the blocks can move freely without any overlap during the optimization process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cluster boundary search algorithm for building-block layout optimization

TL;DR: Comparisons with some recent programs based on analytical and heuristic techniques demonstrate the high computational efficiency of the presented technique making it suitable for solving large-scale layout problems on a PC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analytic annealing for macrocell placement optimization

TL;DR: In this paper, an adaptive procedure is presented for the macrocell placement problem by minimizing the dependence of the optimal solutions on the initial placement and the order of movement of modules, better designs are possible with fewer trials.
