Representation of Lie groups and special functions

TL;DR: The theory of elliptic integrals was introduced by Abel as discussed by the authors, who proposed a special function to evaluate integrals, which is called integral sine, logarithm, exponential function, probability integral and so on.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spectral expansions of some representations of Lie groups

TL;DR: In this paper, representations of classical noncompact Lie groups induced by representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup were investigated and formulas were obtained for 5O0(2p, 2q)/U(p, q) and U(p 2q) ↑ Sp(p, q).
Book ChapterDOI

Symmetries and Special Functions

TL;DR: In the 18th and 19th centuries there appeared a great number of types of special functions to solve the equations of mathematical physics and to calculate the integrals as discussed by the authors, and many of them turned out to be special or limiting cases of the hypergeometric function F(α,β;γ;x), introduced in 1769 by L. Euler and scrutinized at the beginning of the 19th century by Gauss.
