Abstract: Published data about the synthesis and complexing properties of calix[4]pyrroles towards anions, ion pairs and neutral molecules of various nature are analyzed, summarized and classified. Synthetic approaches to the parent macrocycles and methods of their functionalization are presented. General principles, mechanisms and driving forces of the formation of calix[4]pyrrole-based supramolecular complexes are disscussed. Most attention is concentrated on the factors providing effective control of the formation of such structure.The bibliography includes 79 references.

Abstract: Interaction of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, 2-bromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, and 2,3,12,13-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin with manganese(II) chloride in dimethylformamide has been studied by means of spectrophotometry. The corresponding chloride acido complexes of manganese(III) has been so prepared and identified. The complexes could be reduced into manganese(II) tetraphenylporphyrinates in the presence of potassium hydroxide in dimethylformamide.

Abstract: 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-Octamethyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(thiophen-2-yl)porphyrin has been synthesized, and its acid-base and complexing properties have been studied by spectrophotometry in the systems HClO4-acetonitrile (298 K) and Zn(OAc)2-acetonitrile. The basicity constants and kinetic parameters for the formation of zinc complexes of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octamethyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(thiophen-2-yl)porphyrin in the above systems have been determined, and the effect of meso-thienyl substituents on the reactivity of octamethylporphyrin derivative has been discussed. Acid-base and complexing properties of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octamethyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(thiophen-2-yl)porphyrin have been compared with those of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-tert-butylphenyl)-2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octamethylporphyrin.

Abstract: The reaction of 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrin with N-bromosuccinimide in a mixture of chloroform with dimethylformamide afforded 2-bromo-5,10,15,20-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrin. In similar conditions the bromination of Zn(II) 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrinate led to Zn(II) 2,3,12,13-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrinate. By the bromination of β-tetrabromosubstituted zinc tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrinate with N-bromosuccinimide in a mixture chloroform–dimethylformamide Zn(II) 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octabromo-5,10,15,20-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrinate was obtained. The synthesized compounds were characterized by electron absorption, 1Н NMR and mass spectra.

Abstract: The metal-exchange reaction between Cd(II) octa(4-bromophenyl)tetraazaporphyrinate and cobalt chloride in dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide was studied by spectrophotometry. Kinetic parameters of the metal-exchange reaction were determined. A possible stoichiometric mechanism of the reaction was proposed. Cobalt(III) octa(4-bromophenyl)tetraazaporphyrinate was synthesized and characterized.

Abstract: 5,15-Bis(4′-methoxyphenyl)-10,20-bis(4″-nitrophenyl)-2,8,12,18-tetramethyl-3,7,13,17-tetraethylporphyne was synthesized and studied spectrophotometrically in the systems 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene-acetonitrile, Zn(OAc)2-acetonitrile, 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene-Zn(OAc)2-acetonitrile. The orders of acidity and kinetic activity were obtained for methoxyphenyl alkyl derivatives of porphyrins in these systems.
