The present invention provides an ink volatilization preventing composition for an aqueous ball point pen which is to be put onto the upper surface of an aqueous ink having a viscosity of from 10 -3 to 2 Pa sec (25° C.) in an ink tank of the aqueous ball point pen, said composition being obtained by blending a gelling agent and a polyether-modified silicone with a slightly volatile organic liquid. This composition can move together with the ink in the ink tank of the ball point pen without reducing the amount of the composition filled at an initial time, so that the prevention effect of the composition volatilization can be maintained until the ink has been all consumed. In consequence, it is not necessary to fill a large amount of the composition, in contrast to a conventional ink back-blow preventer, and thus there is an advantage that the amount of the ink to be filled can be increased as much as a reducible amount of the composition.

A water-based ink composition for a ball-point pen comprises: a colorant selected from dyes or pigments; a water-soluble organic solvent; water; and a metal salt and/or an amine salt of N-acyl sarcosine. CONSTITUTION: A ball point pen ink having a viscosity of 50W2,000cP at 25°C is obtd. by blending 0.1W30wt% (based on the entire quantity of ink) coloring material (e.g. a pigment or dye soluble or dispersible in an ar. solvent), water as principal component, a watler-soluble org. solvent (e.g. ethylene glycol), a viscosity modifier (e.g. polyvinyl alcohol) and 0.05W10wt% (based on the entire quantity of ink) finely divided high-molecular spherical particles having a particle size of 0.05W6μ. PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which can minimize the sticking of an ink to the inside of an ink container tube, by incorporating a gelling agent and a glycerol borate fatty acid ester into a specified base material. CONSTITUTION:A base material (A) comprising a hardly volatile or nonvolatile organic liquid selected from hydrocarbons (e.g., liquid paraffin) is mixed with 1-20wt% gelling agent (B) (e.g., a fine particulate silica having silanol groups on its surface and a primary particle diameter of several mum-50mum) and a glycerol borate fatty acid ester (C) (e.g., glycerol borate laurate) to give a backflow inhibitor composition for a water-base ball-point pen ink. This composition is put into the top of a water-base ink of a viscosity of 50-2,000cps (25 deg.C) which has been filled in an ink container tube.

CONSTITUTION:The objective composition as an aqueous ink with a viscosity 50-200CPS at 25 deg.C in cartridge, can be obtained by incorporating (A) as base agent, a hard-volatile or non-volatile organic liquid selected from hydrocarbons (e.g., liquid paraffin) with (B) a gelling agent (e.g., particulate silica) and (C) a pentaerythritol fatty acid ester (e.g., pentaerythritol laurate).
