TL;DR: 10 characteristics which may be unique to family planning are presented to help learn how to promote a rational adoption process of family planning.
Abstract: The merits of the diffusion approach in studying the adoption of family planning techniques are discussed. To use the diffusion models properly in family planning overgeneralization and rigid dependence on sequential stages in the processes must be avoided. Evidence indicates that persons with only meager knowledge and evaluation often adopt an innovation whereas sufficient knowledge and evaluation do not necessarily foster adoption. Family planning itself is not necessarily an innovation while techniques are. Since the adoption of a family planning technique is usually a decision process involving more than 1 person emphasis must be placed on inducing a group to accept the ideas. 10 characteristics which may be unique to family planning are presented to help learn how to promote a rational adoption process of family planning. They include determining the newness of family planning to the area perception of local attitudes and recognition of competition among methods.
