Strongly rooted in the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems-enabled manufacturing, disruptive paradigms like the Factory of the Future and Industry 4.0 envision knowledge-intensive industrial intelligent environments where smart personalized products are created through smart processes and procedures. The 4th industrial revolution will be based on CyberPhysical Systems that will monitor, analyze and automate business processes, transforming production and logistic processes into smart factory environments where big data capabilities, cloud services and smart predictive decision support tools are used to increase productivity and efficiency. This survey provides insights into the latest developments in these domains, and identifies relevant research challenges and opportunities to shape the future of intelligent manufacturing environments.

The intelligent industry of the future: A survey on emerging trends, research challenges and opportunities in Industry 4.0

In service oriented computing, service providers and service requesters are main interacting entities. A service provider publishes the services it wishes to make public using service registries. A service requester initiates a discovery process to find the service that meets its requirements using the service registries. Current approaches for the publication and discovery do not realize the essential relationship between the service contract and the conditions in which the service can guarantee its contract. Moreover, they do not use any formal methods for specifying services, contracts, and compositions. Without a formal basis it is not possible to justify through a rigorous verification the correctness conditions for service compositions and the satisfaction of contractual obligations in service provisions. In our recent works, we have identified the role of contextual information, trustworthiness information and legal rules in service provision. This paper focuses on the publication and discovery of trustworthy context-dependent services as supported by the novel framework FrSeC. It introduces a novel ranking algorithm that ranks trustworthy context-dependent services according to the degree they match service requesters requirements. Finally, this paper introduces a prototype implementation for the matching and ranking of services as supported by FrSeC.

Publishing and discovering context-dependent services

Sentiment analysis from unstructured natural language text has recently received considerable attention from the research community. In the frame of biologically inspired machine learning approaches, finding good feature sets is particularly challenging yet very important. In this paper, we focus on this fundamental issue of the sentiment analysis task. Specifically, we employ concepts as features and present a concept extraction algorithm based on a novel concept parser scheme to extract semantic features that exploit semantic relationships between words in natural language text. Additional conceptual information of a concept is obtained using the ConceptNet ontology: Concepts extracted from text are sent as queries to ConceptNet to extract their semantics. We select important concepts and eliminate redundant concepts using the Minimum Redundancy and Maximum Relevance feature selection technique. All selected concepts are then used to build a machine learning model that classifies a given document as positive or negative. We evaluate our concept extraction approach using a benchmark movie review dataset provided by Cornell University and product review datasets on books, DVDs, and electronics. Comparative experimental results show that our proposed approach to sentiment analysis outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.

Concept-Level Sentiment Analysis with Dependency-Based Semantic Parsing: A Novel Approach

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of large number of small sized sensor nodes, whose main task is to sense the desired phenomena in a particular region of interest. These networks have large number of applications such as habitat monitoring, disaster management, security and military etc. Sensor nodes are very small in size and have limited processing capability as these nodes have very low battery power. WSNs are also prone to failure, due to low battery power constraint. Data aggregation is an energy efficient technique in WSNs. Due to high node density in sensor networks same data is sensed by many nodes, which results in redundancy. This redundancy can be eliminated by using data aggregation approach while routing packets from source nodes to base station. Researchers still face trouble to select an efficient and appropriate data aggregation technique from the existing literature of WSNs. This research work depicts a broad methodical literature analysis of data aggregation in the area of WSNs in specific. In this survey, standard methodical literature analysis technique is used based on a complete collection of 123 research papers out of large collection of 932 research papers published in 20 foremost workshops, symposiums, conferences and 17 prominent journals. The current status of data aggregation in WSNs is distributed into various categories. Methodical analysis of data aggregation in WSNs is presented which includes techniques, tools, methodology and challenges in data aggregation. The literature covered fifteen types of data aggregation techniques in WSNs. Detailed analysis of this research work will help researchers to find the important characteristics of data aggregation techniques and will also help to select the most suitable technique for data aggregation. Research issues and future research directions have also been suggested in this research literature.

Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks: Previous Research, Current Status and Future Directions

Specification, Composition and Provision of Trustworthy Context-dependent Services Naseem Ismail Ibrahim, Ph.D. Concordia University, 2012 Ubiquitous computing opened big markets for service provision and consumption bringing benefits for both service providers and consumers. At the same time, it introduced many challenges for developers, such as providing flexible contracts and measurable proofs that assure consumers about the trustworthiness of services. Current approaches for the specification, discovery, and provision of services have not met these challenges. They do not realize the essential relationship between the service contract and the conditions in which the service can guarantee its contract. Moreover, they do not use any formal methods for specifying services, contracts, and compositions. Without a formal basis it is not possible to justify through a rigorous verification the correctness conditions for service compositions and the satisfaction of contractual obligations in service provisions. This thesis makes three major contributions to remedy these drawbacks. The first contribution is a formal service model, which is called ConfiguredService. In this model, service and contract are packaged together. The service part includes functional and nonfunctional aspects of service, and the data parameters and attributes that are essential to define the functional and nonfunctional aspects. The contract part includes business rules, legal aspects, and context information. The second contribution is ConfiguredService composition and verification approach. Several rules for composing ConfiguredServices are defined. The verification approach automatically verifies whether or not a stated property is true in service compositions. Since most of the time compositions are required prior to service delivery the verification process enhances trustworthiness at service selection and service provision contexts.

Specification, composition and provision of trustworthy context-dependent services

A precise definition of services is necessary in order to discover, publish, and deliver them. Services, when provided, should satisfy their binding contractual obligations, be seen as trustworthy by the users, and correctly fulfill the needs of the context in which they will be used. The FrSeC architecture proposed in this paper aims to fulfill these needs. The architecture is formally describable, supports the specification, publication, discovery, selection, and composition of services with context-dependent contracts.

An Architecture for Managing and Delivering Trustworthy Context-Dependent Services

The Internet of Things has recently gained extraordinary popularity. This popularity is only expected to grow in the coming years. Being able to receive services and information from Things anywhere in the world will bring big changes in every facet of people's daily lives. Things are considered service providers themselves. A user should be able to find a Thing and request the services provided by Things. But what happens when the number of Things become so large? How will the user be able to find and select a Things? How will users select the most appropriate and beneficial Thing to carry out a requested task? All of these are some of challenges that are rising from the popularity of the Internet of Things. This paper will investigate the above questions and try to solve them using two well established software engineering concepts: service-oriented architecture and context-awareness. The main contribution of this paper is a Service-oriented Context-aware Architecture for the publication, discovery and provision of services in the Internet of Things.
