Prediction in shopping cart uses partial information about the contents of a shopping cart for the prediction of what else the customer is likely to buy. In order to reduce the rule mining cost, a fast algorithm generating frequent itemsets without generating candidate itemsets is proposed. The algorithm uses Boolean vector with relational AND operation to discover frequent itemsets and generate the association rule. Association rules are used to identify relationships among a set of items in database. Initially Boolean Matrix is generated by transforming the database into Boolean values. The frequent itemsets are generated from the Boolean matrix. Then association rules are to generated from the already generated frequent itemsets. The association rules generated form the basis for prediction. The incoming itemset i.e the content of incoming shopping cart will also be represented by a Boolean vector and AND operation is performed with each transaction vector to generate the association rules. Finally the rules are combined to get the predictions. Dempster‟s rule of combination (DRC) is used to combine the evidences. Finally the predicted items are suggested to the user.

Predicting Missing Items in Shopping Carts using Fast Algorithm

Many researches has focused mainly on how to expedite the search for frequently co-occurring groups of items in &#34shopping cart&#34 and less attention has been paid to the methods that exploit these &#34frequent itemsets&#34 for prediction purposes. This study contributes to this task by proposing a technique that uses the partial information about the contents of a shopping cart for the prediction of what else the customer is likely to buy. Several algorithms have been introduced to detect the frequently co occurring group of items in the transactional databases for prediction purposes. This study presents a new technique whose principal diagonal elements represent the association among items and looking to the principal diagonal elements, the customer can select what else the other items can be purchased with the current contents of the shopping cart and also reduces the rule mining cost. The association among items is shown through Graph. The frequent itemsets are generated from the Association Matrix. Then association rules are to be generated from the already generated frequent itemsets. We conducted extensive experiments and showed that the accuracy of our algorithm is higher than the previous algorithm. Our experiments show that the time needed for predicting the items is highly reduced than other algorithms. Moreover the memory requirement is also less since our work does not generate candidate itemsets. In this study, we have successfully implemented the Rule generation technique and predicted the set of other items that the customer is likely to buy. The performance of our algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm that needs multiple passes over the database in such a way that it efficiently mines the association among the items in the shopping cart and the prediction time of the items is greatly reduced.

Extracting needful information from the large pool of information is a primary task before predicting. Especially from a huge amount of incomplete, noisy, redundant and randomly scattered data. Data mining provides a framework that automatically discovers required patterns from data set which will be using these predict future occurrence in analogous scenario. Data mining approach modeled and extracts multiplicity of category and various time granularities to fulfill the need of various users or uses. Association rule mining is the core mechanism of data mining to help us. An association rule mining has grown to be central field in modern data mining research context [1]. In this article we have surveyed various techniques of association rule mining and their significance.

Modern Research Trends in Association Data Mining Techniques

An Enhanced Prediction Technique for Missing Itemset in Shopping Cart

At present many algorithms for mining association rules have been proposed, but most of them are only suitable for discovering specific frequent itemsets from characteristic data sets on the appointed environments, namely, these algorithms are not general enough when mining association rules. In this paper, a general framework based on composite granules for mining association rules is proposed, which is a general data mining model without appointed restriction from frequent itemsets, data sets or mining environments and so on. An iterative method is efficiently applied to the general mining framework for discovering frequent itemsets, which adopts repartitioning frequent attributes to iteratively reconstruct the mixed radix information system for reducing a relational database. In order that the framework for discovering frequent itemsets has a generality, in discussing and establishing the general mining framework, this paper introduces a novel conception and data model, namely, a mixed radix information system is applied to describe a relational database, and a composite granules is used to build a specific relationship between an information system and a mixed radix information system, which can hold the same extension and simultaneously exist in two different information systems. The mixed radix information system can help the general framework to reduce information data and improve the performance of the framework for generating frequent itemsets. The composite granules model can create a relationship between an information granule and a digital information granule, and help the framework for computing the support to avoid reading the database repeatedly or using the complex data structure. Finally, a new taxonomy is presented to verify the generality and the high efficiency of the mining framework and all the experiments based on the taxonomy indicate that the general mining framework has the required generality, and the performance of the framework is better than these classical mining frameworks.

A General Framework Based on Composite Granules for Mining Association Rules

The most time consuming operation in Priori-like algorithms for association rule mining is the computation of the frequency of the occurrences of itemsets (called candidates) in the database. In this paper, a fast algorithm has been proposed for generating frequent itemsets without generating candidate itemsets and association rules with multiple consequents. The proposed algorithm uses Boolean vector with relational AND operation to discover frequent itemsets. Experimental results shows that combining Boolean Vector and relational AND operation results in quickly discovering of frequent itemsets and association rules as compared to general Apriori algorithm.
