The “inverted v” cloud pattern—an easterly wave?

TL;DR: In the tropical Atlantic, cloud bands are aligned approximately parallel to the lower tropospheric winds and change orientation along the wave axis as mentioned in this paper, which has been found to be associated with a characteristic cloud pattern which has the appearance of an inverted V.
