Probabilistic technique for consistency checking cache entries
TL;DR: In this paper, a facility for determining whether to consistency-check a cache entry is described, where the facility randomly or pseudorandomly selects a value in a range, and if the selected value satisfies a predetermined consistency-checking threshold within the range, the facility consistency-checks the entry, and may decide to propagate this knowledge to other cache managers.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for managing a cache comprises: receiving a request for an object; if the cache has a version of the object where the cache is cached and a minimum lifetime belonging to the cached version of object is not expired, using the cached versions of the objects to respond to the received request; and, if the minimum lifetime of the cached object is expired but the maximum lifetime of a cached version remains intact, determining probabilistically whether acquiring a current version of an object or using the original cached version.
