Assessing ICT global emissions footprint: Trends to 2040 & recommendations

Globalization necessitates that we address the negative externalities of international trade and transport, including biological invasion. The US government defines invasive species to mean, “with regard to a particular ecosystem, a non-native organism whose introduction causes, or is likely to cause, economic or environmental harm, or harm to human, animal, or plant health.” Here we address the role of early detection of and rapid response to invasive species (EDRR) in minimizing the impact of invasive species on US interests. We provide a review of EDRR’s usage as a federal policy and planning term, introduce a new conceptual framework for EDRR, and assess US federal capacities for enacting well-coordinated EDRR. Developing a national EDRR program is a worthwhile goal; our assessment nonetheless indicates that the federal government and its partners need to overcome substantial conceptual, institutional, and operational challenges that include establishing clear and consistent terminology use, strategically identifying and communicating agency functions, improving interagency budgeting, facilitating the application of emerging technologies and other resources to support EDRR, and making information relevant to EDRR preparedness and implementation more readily accessible. This paper is the first in a special issue of Biological Invasions that includes 12 complementary papers intended to inform the development and implementation of a national EDRR program.

The early detection of and rapid response (EDRR) to invasive species: a conceptual framework and federal capacities assessment

This paper serves three purposes First, it makes a case for seeing creativity as a key learning outcome in our times, and thus the core business of education It then goes on to examine the nexus of creativity and pedagogy, showing the conceptual work done to demonstrate creativity as a learnable set of dispositions and capabilities Finally and most importantly, the paper argues the value of a pedagogical approach the author calls “Meddling-in-the-Middle”, in augmenting and enhancing the repertoires of “Sage-on-the-Stage” and “Guide-on-the-Side” in order to build students' creative capacity Examples are given of what these meta-approaches might look like in relation to the teaching of Shakespeare The author concludes by arguing the important connection between Meddling pedagogy and creative capacity building

Teaching for creativity : from sage to guide to meddler

Wearable sensor technology has gradually extended its usability into a wide range of well-known applications. Wearable sensors can typically assess and quantify the wearer's physiology and are commonly employed for human activity detection and quantified self-assessment. Wearable sensors are increasingly utilised to monitor patient health, rapidly assist with disease diagnosis, and help predict and often improve patient outcomes. Clinicians use various self-report questionnaires and well-known tests to report patient symptoms and assess their functional ability. These assessments are time consuming and costly and depend on subjective patient recall. Moreover, measurements may not accurately demonstrate the patient's functional ability whilst at home. Wearable sensors can be used to detect and quantify specific movements in different applications. The volume of data collected by wearable sensors during long-term assessment of ambulatory movement can become immense in tuple size. This paper discusses current techniques used to track and record various human body movements, as well as techniques used to measure activity and sleep from long-term data collected by wearable technology devices.

Review of Wearable Devices and Data Collection Considerations for Connected Health.

Drones, also referred to as UAV's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, are an aircraft without a human pilot. Drones have been used by various military organisations for over a decade, but in recent years drones a have been emerging more and more in commercial and recreational capacity. The paper is aimed at drone and UAV technology capabilities and how they could and are currently effecting privacy laws globally in comparison to those currently in the Rep. of Ireland. Being investigated is the collection, retention and purpose of which civilian's information is being gathered. The authors also discuss the laws preventing the development and evolution of drone technology in the US in comparison to the Rep. of Ireland.

Pengujian yang dilakukan meliputi waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan panggilan layanan web, RAM digunakan membuat panggilan layanan web, dan data yang dikirim dan diterima ketika membuat panggilan layanan web.

Performance Comparison of Enterprise Applications on Mobile Operating Systems

Adhering to laws whilst working or studying in an educational establishment is often fraught with challenges. The Irish Data Protection Act 1988 (Amendment 2003) strives to protect the individual where their personal data is potentially being abused. The advancements in technologies have facilitated educational establishments by improving efficiencies and reducing costs. However, this paper will outline the salient features of the said Act and evaluate how well the law adapts with technologies such as cloud computing and biometrics. It will endeavour to align the law with these technologies and offer a critique of areas that are potentially lacking. Cases will be discussed where precedents have been set by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner and as a result, suggestions for a data protection policy for Higher Education will be proposed. Privacy - or lack of it however has provoked outrage at various times in the media. This paper seeks to examine the ramifications of poor privacy management by Facebook.
