Journal ArticleDOI

Encephalitis and Encephalopathy Associated with an Influenza Epidemic in Japan

TL;DR: F influenza-associated encephalitis/encephalopathy progressed rapidly and was associated with poor outcomes, and thrombocytopenia and severely elevated transaminase levels were factors associated with a poor prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hand, foot, and mouth disease caused by coxsackievirus A6, Japan, 2011.

TL;DR: Typical clinical signs and symptoms of HFMD cases caused by CVA6 were fever, mild vesicles in oral mucosa, and skin blisters on hands, arms, feet, legs, buttocks, and nail matrixes (Figure).
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic analyses of GII.17 norovirus strains in diarrheal disease outbreaks from December 2014 to March 2015 in Japan reveal a novel polymerase sequence and amino acid substitutions in the capsid region.

TL;DR: A novel GII.P17-GII.17 variant norov virus emerged as a major cause of norovirus outbreaks from December 2014 to March 2015 in Japan and has a newly identified GII-P17 type RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, while the capsid sequence displays amino acid substitutions around histo-blood group antigen (HBGA) binding sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enterovirus 71 from Fatal and Nonfatal Cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Epidemics in Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan in 1997-1998

TL;DR: The nucleotide sequences of each EV71 isolate were determined and compared by phylogenetical analysis, and the severity of the HFMD did not link directly to certain genotypes of EV71, including genotype A-2.
