The fast image encryption algorithm based on lifting scheme and chaos

Multimedia communication is revolutionizing all major spheres of human life. The advent of IoT and its applications in many fields like sensing, healthcare and industry, result exponential increase in multimedia data, that needs to be shared over insecure networks. IoT driven setups are however constrained in terms of resources as a result of their small size. From data security point of view a conventional algorithms cannot be used for data encryption on an IoT platform given the resource constraints. The work presented in this paper studies the performance of SIMON cryptographic algorithm and proposes a light-weight-cryptography algorithm based on SIMON for its possible use in an IoT driven setup. The focus is on speed enhancement benefitting from software prospective, making it different than common studies mostly reflecting hardware implementations. To achieve performance in practical prospective, the contribution looks into SIMON cipher’s characteristics considering utilizing it for internet of things (IoT) healthcare applications. The paper suggests further improvement to implement the original SIMON cryptography in order to reduce the encryption time and maintain the practical trade-off between security and performance. The proposed work has been compared to Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and the original SIMON block cipher algorithms in terms of execution time, memory consumption. The results show that the proposed work is suitable for securing data in an IoT driven setup.

Enhancing speed of SIMON: A light-weight-cryptographic algorithm for IoT applications

With the exponential rise of multimedia technology and networked infrastructure, electronic healthcare is coming up a big way. One of the most important challenges in an electronic healthcare setup is the authentication of medical images, received by an expert at a far-off location from the sender. With an aim to address the critical authentication issue, this paper presents a fragile watermarking technique capable of tamper detection and localization in medical/general images. We divide the cover image into 4 × 4 non overlapping pixel blocks; with each block further sub-divided into two 4 × 2 blocks, called as Upper Half Block (UHB) and Lower Half Block (LHB). The information embedded in LHB facilitates tamper detection while as that embedded in UHB facilities tamper localization. The experimental results show that, in addition to tamper detection and localization capability, the proposed technique has lesser computational complexity when compared to other state-of-art techniques. Further, the proposed scheme results in average PSNR of 51.26 dB for a payload of one bit per pixel (1bpp) indicating that the watermarked images obtained are of high visual quality.

An efficient watermarking technique for tamper detection and localization of medical images

Secret Sharing is required in situations where access to important resources has to be protected by more than one person. We propose new secret-sharing scheme that works based on parallel counting of the ones within the shares to generate the secret output. Our work presented two different modeling variations that are mainly different in the secret-sharing keys generation where both are studied elaborating their pros and cons. Our counting-based secret shares key reconstruction is implemented and simulated considering the security level required by the usage functions. Comparisons showed interesting results that are attractive to be considered. This secret sharing method is of great benefit to all multimedia secret sharing applications such as securing bank sensitive accounts and error tracking, voting systems trust, medical agreements, wills and inheritance authentication management.

Counting-based secret sharing technique for multimedia applications

This paper proposed an enhanced system for securing sensitive text-data on personal computer benefitting from the combination of both techniques: cryptography and steganography. The system security is generated by involving RSA cryptography followed by video based steganography as two sequential layers to insure best possible security gaining the advantages from both. The study modeled the system and implemented it to be tested to explore the relation between security, capacity and data dependency. The experimentations covered testing securing data within 15 different size videos showing interesting results. The research gave enhancement to capacity vs. security, as enforced unavoidable tradeoff. The work uniqueness is presented in showing different measures allowing the user and application to be the decision maker to choose. The tests provided all possibilities of accepting security of 1-LSB, 2-LSB, and 3-LSB methods detailing their effects on the cover video. The main outcome proved applicability to be adopting 3-LSB approach to give acceptable security with practical capacity preferred making 3-LSB winning among 1-LSB and 2-LSB techniques.

Enhancing PC Data Security via Combining RSA Cryptography and Video Based Steganography

Security system for hiding sensitive text-data on personal computer (PC) is implemented. The system proposes using normal multimedia image based steganography replacing the pixel least significant bits with text to be hidden. The study involved several testing scenarios for possible increase in the capacity and ambiguity within steganography adopting 1, 2, 3 and 4 least significant bits stego-systems choices. The design novelty is in providing full security information to the user to select appropriate cover-image from the PC based on the security priority. The technique allows the PC user to test multi-bits steganography on several images to hide same sensitive texts. Then, the user can prefer one image to be used as cover image based on his selection knowing the capacity and security priority desired. The study proofs the data dependency and its security property by experimenting 35 fixed sizes PC images showing remarkable results.

The results gave enhancement in capacity versus security trade-off, allowing the user and application to be the decision maker in the choice. The work showed the possibility of accepting security of 1-LSB, 2-LSB, and 3-LSB methods and their reasonable effect on the cover. The study also shows that using 3-LSB is giving acceptable security benefitting extra capacity more than 1-LSB and 2-LSB found in the literature.

Combining RSA and audio steganography on personal computers for enhancing security

This study seeks specific strategies to motivate teachers within Saudi Arabia to use Information technology (IT) in the educational process. The work evaluated using IT considering particular concerns within the Saudi region. It, then, suggests the possible tuning strategies making teachers motivated to adopt IT in their educational job. The research surveys 100 different schools to identify the impact of using IT on the students, teachers, principals and students' parents. The surveys are build utilising different paragraphs specifically designed according to the region situations as well as group categorisation, that is of students, teachers, principals and parents. The research questionnaires of every category have been distributed and completed electronically by more than 10,000 users within schools of Saudi Arabia. The study used the statistics to show the expected IT impact on the educational process including the administrative influence as well as student family life. The work used means and standard deviations to analyse the results and build specific recommendations geared towards teachers' motivation. The study proved specific urgency for improvement tuning need within the schooling system. Its main advises are found urgently essential to be considered in order to motivate the teachers via specific strategies leading to interesting educational improvements.
