Health-promoting lifestyle profile and associated factors among medical students in a Saudi university:

BACKGROUND\nIn 1986, the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion sought to create a framework that conveyed the notion of capacity building, related to specific settings, and a structured process for health promotion action. It provided the platform from which the health promoting hospital movement was later launched. Nearly two decades on, the health promoting hospital (HPH) movement has grown considerably and continues to expand, against the backdrop of having to adapt to the changing needs and demands of clients and the evolving social context of their communities. Many nurses, it is argued here, are often unaware of health promoting hospitals concepts or, when they are, do little to contribute to them.\n\n\nMETHOD\nA critical review of the available health promoting hospital and related literature has been conducted for discussion.\n\n\nFINDINGS\nThe literature revealed that hospitals are being urged to reject practices based purely on health-limiting and limited biomedical frameworks, in favour of moving towards models based on health promoting hospitals and public health-orientated hospitals. This requires radical reform that focuses on the social and health policy context of organizations, the socio-political empowerment of its employers and clients, and the personal/collective positive health and welfare of its employers and clients. Many health service agencies are beginning to emphasize population health within communities as part of a concerted move away from an original primary focus on acute inpatient hospital-based service provision.\n\n\nCONCLUSION\nHospitals need to adapt and expand their efforts to focus on health promotion activities, in collaboration with the ever-widening community networks of health and social agencies. This requires the commitment of all health care professional groups. Nurses who practice in the hospital setting should be aiming to initiate and promote radical health promotion reform as set out in the health promoting hospital movement. This paper argues that nursing per se could be making much larger inroads and efforts to affect and implement wide-ranging health promotion activities in hospital organizations. Nurses should view the HPH movement as another opportunity truly to embrace evolving broad-based health promotion concepts, as a means to forge and own their own health agenda, and also as a means to move beyond the traditional reliance of a limited health education role.\n\n\nRELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE\nHospitals and their employees must be seen to advocate, support and implement wide-reaching social and community-based reform, as part of a necessary commitment to 'seamless' health care provision. The health promoting hospital movement represents a collective vehicle for enabling such activities. If nurses wish to be at the forefront of current health service strategies they must be seen to embrace the radical health promotion reforms that are emerging from the current literature and put forward in this article.

To Smith and Cusack's commentary on Whitehead D (2004) Health promoting hospitals: the role and function of nursing

Background: Healthy lifestyle and ineffective coping strategies are deemed significant variables among patients with hypertension. This study attempted to determine the status of these variables following intervention via the mindfulness-based stress-reduction program (MBSRP) in patients with hypertension.

Method: This study was a randomized clinical trial. The study sample, consisting of 30 patients referring to the Hypertension Clinic of Imam Hossein Hospital in 2013, was assigned either to the intervention (recipient of the MBSRP and conscious yoga) or to the control group (recipient of yoga training). The intervention group had 8 training sessions over 8 weeks. Lifestyle and coping strategies as well as blood pressure were measured in the intervention group before intervention and then immediately thereafter and at 2 months' follow-up and were compared to those in the control group at the same time points.

Result: The mean age of the patients in the intervention (40% women) and control (53% women) groups was 43.66 ± 5.14 and 43.13 ± 5.04 years, respectively. The results showed that the mean scores of lifestyle (p value < 0.05), emotion-focused coping strategies (p value < 0.001), problem-focused coping strategies (p value < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (p value < 0.001), and systolic blood pressure (p value < 0.001) were significantly different between the intervention and control groups after the intervention.

Conclusion: Applying an intervention based on the MBSRP may further improve the lifestyle and coping strategies of patients with hypertension.

Health-promoting lifestyle behaviors among nurses in private hospitals in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

Introduction:Cervical cancer is the second prevalent women cancer in the world . This cancer is found preventable because of having the prolong time before the appearance, its complications and the available proper screening program and possibility of the primary lesion treatment .This cancer could rarely be diagnose without appearing its malignant symptoms.
Since the Health Belief Model (HBM) is one of the applicable praxeology model in health education to prevent and control of diseases and to determine the reasons of acceptation of health issues, therefor this investigation is aimed to determine Health Belief Model components in adopting preventive behaviors in cervical cancer in women aged 20-65 In Jahrom /Fars province/ of Iran was conducted.
Materials and Method:This descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional study was carried out on 213 married 20-65 year-old women chosen by a cluster sampling point method. The data was gathered by a valid and reliable questionnaire including demographic variables and Health Belief Model components and interview method. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and analytical statistics (Chi square test, in-depended T-Test , Pearson correlation coefficient and Regression)by SPSS-16. Probability values less than 0.05 were considered significant. 
Results: The results showed that mean age of the study group was 40.42± 12.22 and only 5.9% of them had a good knowledge about the cervical cancer and preventive behaviors of it. 31.6% of the studied women had at least one time examined for Pap smear test and only 7.9% of them with the test performed this test on a regular intervals.
Test regression analysis showed that all components of the HBM have an effective role in behavior and self-efficacy had the most impact (P=0.001).
In addition, there was a significant difference between the mean HBM components (perceived barriers, perceived benefits, behavior and knowledge ) in women who have a history of papsmear test with them who had not. (P=0.027, P=0.035, P=0.003, P=0.01). 
Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that there is little knowledge about cervical cancer among women in Jahrom that needs to be increased. Long-term educational programs is recommended based on the HBM with particular notice on preventive behaviors of cervical cancer.

Measuring Health Belief Model components in adopting preventive behaviors of cervical cancer in Jahrom 2010

Objectives: To determine the health promotion lifestyle behaviors (HPLB) of nurses working in a university medical faculty hospital in Turkey and to investigate the factors related behaviors. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in Ankara University Medical Faculty Hospital, Ankara, Turkey, between January 2008 and 23 January 2009. Two hundred and eighty nurses were recruited randomly out of 550 female nurses. However, 10 of them were removed from the research due to the annual leave. The study was conducted among 270 nurses. Health promotion lifestyle behaviors were evaluated using Personal Information Form and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP II). Data were analyzed using independent t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskall Wallis, Tukey test by SPSS Version 16 package with significance level of p <0.05. Results: The highest sub-scale score with 26.0±5.00 was detected from self-realization and the lowest was detected from physical activity  with 13.9±4.50 points. Nurses’ self-realization scores differed significantly by perception of health status ( p =0.029). Income status differed significantly by health responsibility ( p =0.049), interpersonal relations ( p =0.032), stress management ( p =0.027) subscales,  and total score of the HPLP II ( p =0.043). The physical activity subscale score of the HPLP II differed significantly by marital status ( p =0.036) and situation of having a child but singles scored better than married ( p =0.001). Conclusion: Low exercise score indicated the need for intervention programs for the nurses surveyed. New regulations aim to raise the income level of nurses should be applied.

Analysis of health promoting lifestyle behaviors and associated factors among nurses at a university hospital in Turkey

Breast cancer is an important cancer type and the most common malignancy among women in both developed and developing countries and the second leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. This study aimed to examine the projected risk of breast cancer in Turkish women academician, determine the levels of their breast cancer screening behaviors and uncover the relationship between their health beliefs and screening behaviors. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from March to July 2018 in the province of Aydin, Turkey with a total of 200 female academicians. The data were collected using questionnaires filled out by the participants and the Turkish version of the Champion Health Belief Model Scale. Data were analyzed using t test, ANOVA, Chi-square and logistic regression performed with Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. The mean age of the female academics was 36.1 ± 0.53 years. The female performing breast self-examination had higher perceived sensitivity (OR = 2.88, 95% Cl 1.32, 2.66) benefits to breast self-examination (OR = 0.90, 95% Cl 0.82, 0.99), self-efficacy (OR = 0.87, 95% Cl 0.81, 0.93) health motivation (OR = 1.74, 95% Cl 0.50, 0.90), benefit to mammography (OR = 0.97, 95% Cl 0.88, 1.08), lower barrier to mammography (OR = 1.05, 95% Cl 1.0, 1.09) than women who did not. Female academics with clinical breast examination had higher self-efficacy (OR = 0.91, 95% Cl 0.86, 0.97) and lower barrier to mammography (OR = 1.06, 95% Cl 1.02, 1.10) than women who did not. The female with take mammography had higher sensitivity (OR = 0.84, 95% Cl 0.72, 0.98), lower barrier to breast self-examination (OR = 1.08, 95% Cl 1.02, 1.15) and lower barrier to mammography (OR = 1.09, 95% Cl 1.04, 1.14) than female who did not. Female academicians in Turkey exhibit positive attitudes towards breast self-examination, clinical breast examination and mammography as they have higher perceived sensitivity against breast cancer, self-efficacy and fewer barriers. Long-term community-based programs should be extended to different groups of women from a variety of socio-demographic environments.

Application of the Champion Health Belief Model to determine beliefs and behaviors of Turkish women academicians regarding breast cancer screening: A cross sectional descriptive study

Introduction: Undiagnosed and uncorrected refractive errors in childhood can negatively affect the development of vision and cause students to have low academic success and even quit school before graduation. This study aims to determine the effects of an eye health promotion program on the health protective behaviors of primary school students. Materials and Methods: This experimental study using a pretest-posttest design with a control group was conducted in three public primary schools in Aydin, a city in the Western Anatolia Region of Turkey, between April and November 2014. The eye health promotion program was provided by the researchers to the experimental Group 2 days in 4 weeks. The data were analyzed using the t-test, Chi-square analysis, the Mann–Whitney U-test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and the McNemar test. Results: The average age of the students was identified as 9.0 ± 3.64 years. The students wearing glasses all in the experimental group and 53.3% in the control group were found to always wear their glasses after the education program was completed (P Conclusion: The eye health promotion program was found to be effective in improving eye health protective behaviors within the experimental group.

The effect of an eye health promotion program on the health protective behaviors of primary school students.

This study aimed to evaluate knowledge, health belief, and preventive behavior regarding cervical cancer among Turkish Women. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from May to June 2019 in the province of Aydin, Turkey, with a total of 131 women. The data were collected using questionnaires filled out by the participants and the Cancer Information Overload Scale and The Turkish version of the Cervical Cancer and HPV Awareness Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using t test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. It is seen from the results of the study that married women, women who have been sexually active before, and women who had at least one pregnancy had a higher Cancer Information Overload Scale score (p < 0.05). This study showed that 56.8% of participants had not undergone a Pap smear test. Women with active smoking were less likely than those without active smoking to have a perceived seriousness score (15.82 ± 4.25 vs 18.19 ± 4.56). Women who had a Pap smear test were more likely than those who had not had a Pap smear test to have a perceived seriousness score (19.78 ± 3.61 vs 17.30 ± 4.94). (p < 0.05). There is a need for more participation in the Pap smear test. This study showed a high level of perceived seriousness increased Pap smear test screening. Aside from studies evaluating the knowledge and practice level of the population in cervical cancer, interventional studies promoting the development of preventive behaviors would contribute significantly to the literature.

Knowledge, health beliefs, and preventive behavior regarding cervical cancer among Turkish women: a cross sectional study

Objective: To determine skin cancer knowledge levels and prevention practices among bus drivers.
Methods: The cross sectional study was conducted in Ayd?n province, western Turkey, from April to June 2018, and comprised bus drivers who came to the primary health centre. Data was collected using a predesigned questionnaire based on sociodemographic characteristics and the Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale. Data was analysed using SPSS 16.
Results: There were 125 male bus drivers with a mean age of 42.0±9.1 years. There was a significant relationship between history of skin cancer in the family and the presence of freckles (p 2 hours a day  (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The bus drivers did not have enough knowledge about the critical significance of skin cancer.
