Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental investigation of photon attenuation behaviors for concretes including natural perlite mineral
TL;DR: In this article, the HPGe detector based on gamma spectrometer was employed for all experiments and the results revealed that among the prepared concrete samples, the P6 concrete sample has the lowest HVL and MFP values and thus, having best ability to attenuate gamma rays in comparison to the other prepared concretes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exotic dense-matter states pumped by a relativistic laser plasma in the radiation-dominated regime
James Colgan,Joseph Abdallah,A. Ya. Faenov,S. A. Pikuz,Erik Wagenaars,N. Booth,O. Culfa,R. J. Dance,R. G. Evans,Ross Gray,T. Kaempfer,Kate Lancaster,Paul McKenna,A.L. Rossall,I. Yu. Skobelev,Kai S. Schulze,Ingo Uschmann,Ingo Uschmann,Alexei Zhidkov,Nigel Woolsey +19 more
TL;DR: The observations of spectra from these exotic states of matter are supported by detailed kinetics calculations, and are consistent with a picture in which an intense polychromatic x-ray field, formed from Thomson scattering and bremsstrahlung in the electrostatic fields at the target surface, drives the KK hollow atom production.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detailed analysis of hollow ions spectra from dense matter pumped by X-ray emission of relativistic laser plasma
Stephanie Hansen,James Colgan,A. Ya. Faenov,Joseph Abdallah,S. A. Pikuz,I. Yu. Skobelev,Erik Wagenaars,N. Booth,O. Culfa,R. J. Dance,G. J. Tallents,R. G. Evans,Ross Gray,T. Kaempfer,Kate Lancaster,Paul McKenna,Andrew Rossall,Kai S. Schulze,I. Uschmann,Alexei Zhidkov,Nigel Woolsey +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present extended modeling of the x-ray emission spectrum reported by Colgan et al. based on two collisional-radiative codes: the hybrid-structure Spectroscopic Collisional-Radiative Atomic Model (SCRAM) and the mixed-unresolved transition arrays (MUTA) ATOMIC model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement and simulations of hollow atom X-ray spectra of solid-density relativistic plasma created by high-contrast PW optical laser pulses
S. A. Pikuz,A. Ya. Faenov,A. Ya. Faenov,James Colgan,R. J. Dance,Joseph Abdallah,Erik Wagenaars,N. Booth,O. Culfa,R. G. Evans,Ross Gray,T. Kaempfer,Kate Lancaster,Paul McKenna,A.L. Rossall,I. Yu. Skobelev,K. S. Schulze,Ingo Uschmann,Alexei Zhidkov,Nigel Woolsey +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of X-ray photons generated by radiation friction to fast electron currents in solid-density plasma due to Thomson scattering and bremsstrahlung in the transverse plasma fields is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hot electron production in laser solid interactions with a controlled pre-pulse
O. Culfa,G.J. Tallents,Erik Wagenaars,Christopher Ridgers,R. J. Dance,Andrew Rossall,Ross Gray,Paul McKenna,C.D.R Brown,Steven James,D.J. Hoarty,N. Booth,Alexander Robinson,Kate Lancaster,Kate Lancaster,S. A. Pikuz,A. Ya. Faenov,A. Ya. Faenov,T. Kämpfer,K. S. Schulze,Ingo Uschmann,Nigel Woolsey +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the number and temperature of hot electrons obtained using an electron spectrometer were correlated to the density scale length of the plasma produced by a controlled pre-pulse measured using an optical probe diagnostic.
