This paper presents a review of the research on the Kalina cycle, including the description of the Kalina cycle, the comparison of the Rankine and Kalina cycle, energy and exergy analysis on the Kalina cycle, different Kalina systems and their different applications. Moreover, different correlations for calculating thermodynamic properties of ammonia–water mixture are screened and discussed. In the end, some technique concerns on ammonia–water mixture, i.e., stability, environmental impacts, safety and corrosion problem etc are also discussed.

For the last two centuries, fossil fuel has been considered and utilized as the main source of energy. However; the negative impacts of burning fossil fuel on the environment have forced the energy research continuity to seriously consider renewable sources of energy. Solar energy, in particular, has been the main focus in this regard because it is a source of clean energy and naturally available. Solar energy applications include solar photovoltaic and solar thermal. Solar thermal systems are used to power absorption refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. This study presents a review of recent published work in the field of solar powered absorption systems which utilize pairs of working fluid. The focus in this study is on solar powered absorption refrigeration systems, diffusion absorption systems, ejector based absorption systems, compression absorption systems and cogeneration/trigeneration absorption systems. The thermodynamic properties of most common working fluids as well as use of ternary mixtures in solar powered absorption systems have been reviewed in this study. The review indicates that along with aqua-ammonia and LiBr–water, there are certain other working fluids that have theoretically shown good performance such as lithium nitrate–ammonia, sodium thiocyanate–ammonia, TFE–TEGDME, methanol–TEDGME, monomethylamine–water and LiCl–water. It is also found that, for diffusion absorption systems, TFE–TEGDME working pair have theoretically shown good performance. The review also indicates that the ternary mixture of LiBr:CHO2K–water have shown good performance compared to other ternary mixtures.

Thermodynamic Properties of Ammonia-Water Mixtures

Abstract Background Introducing new crops to reduce the nutritional gap in Egypt is an important target. One of these crops is Quinoa which is characterized by high nutritional value with multiple food uses. However, it will compete with other winter crops, so it is candidate to grow in marginal lands like calcareous soils. Meanwhile, planting density and N requirements are not known under such conditions; therefore, this work was undertaken in calcareous soil Caco 3 &gt; 50%. Methods The experiments included three nitrogen fertilization treatments (0, 50 and 100 kg/fed.) and two plant densities (20,000 plants/fed. and 36,000 plants/fed.) on Quinoa ( Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) cv. Shibaya Field over two consecutive winter seasons of 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in calcareous soil. Quinoa seed yield, biological yield, straw yield, weight of 1000-seed, harvest index, total nitrogen percentage in seeds, crude protein content in seeds, phosphorus content in seeds and potassium percentage in seeds were determined. The experimental design was a split plot design with three replications. Results The results showed that applying nitrogen fertilization at a rate of 100 kg/fed. had significantly greater seed yield, biological yield, seed yield, straw yield and weight of 1000-seed. All seed chemical contents except K percentage were significantly affected due to nitrogen fertilization. Increasing plant density from 20,000 to 36,000 plants per feddan significantly increased the biological yield, seed yield, straw yield, weight of 1000-seed and harvest index. The interaction between the two studied factors was significant on all characters of this investigation except, K percentage in seeds. Conclusion It can be concluded from this study that the quinoa crop responds to the increase in nitrogen fertilization and increases productivity and quality when fertilized with a rate of 100 kg nitrogen per fed.
