In the last decades, an increasing interest has been granted to halophytes due to their high phenolic content, which have therapeutic potential in the treatment and/or management of human health. Therefore, it is important to measure the halophyte total polyphenol content correctly and to valorize their antioxidant capacity. Ethanol extracts from thirty halophytes were analyzed to evaluate the Total Phenol Content (TPC). We employed three testing methods to prove their antioxidant potentialities, including DPPH (1DiPhenyl-2-PicrylHydrazyl), ABTS (2,20-Azino-Bis-3-ethylbenzoThiazoline-6-Sulfonic acid) and IRP (Iron Reducing Power) assays. Results showed that plants exhibited different TPC, which varied significantly from 411.5 mg GAE g DW in Cynomorium coccineum to 6.02 mg GAE g DW in Ammophila arenaria. Concerning antioxidant activities, data revealed that Cynomorium coccineum (IC50= 3.82 μg ml -1 versus ABTS) and Euphorbia paralias had the highest antiradical capacity (IC50= 0.12 μg ml -1 against DPPH) and exhibited the best efficient concentration with an EC50 value= 9.57 μg mL -1 for the IRP. Considering correlation between phenols and antioxidant tests, three groups were distinguished with a higher correlation coefficient between 0.78 and 0.98 for the first group. These data suggest the promising potentialities of the Mediterranean medicinal halophytes as valuable source of powerful antioxidants of industries, especially for Cynomorium coccineum, Carpobrotus edulis, Reaumuria vermiculata, Tamarix gallica, and Euphorbia paralias regarding their strong phenol content.

A Comparative Evaluation of Total Polyphenolic Content and Antioxidant Potential of Thirty Medicinal Halophytes from the Mediterranean Region

Objectives: To determine the effects of ethanolic extract of fagonia cretica linn on different hematological parameters, in albino rats, in Sudan (January â€“ February) 2011. Materials & Methods: Different methods were adopted in this study; the Harborne extraction method was applied. A total of (30), young adult Wistar rats of age (8-12) weeks, weighing (42.6 â€“ 72.2) grams, maintained at standard laboratory conditions, obtained from Sudan NCR. Rats were divided into (4) groups, (3) x (7) rats (study groups), and control group (9) rats. All rats were sacrificed for inspection, and safety of internal organs. Ethical approval had been obtained. Before experiments started, rats were fasted overnight for (14 â€“ 16) hours. the control group (C), received orally (10) ml/kg distilled water, while groups (1,2,3) were orally receiving single, daily doses ( 100, 300 and 600) mg/kg of body weight of the extract in distilled water (1 g/10 ml) respectively, for (14) days using acute oral toxicity (425) protocol [36] . (CBC) blood samples were collected in (EDTA) tubes - from the ratâ€™s eyes using nonheparinized capillary tubes. The assay was done at Shendi University using (Shenzhen Mindray BC-3000 Plus Auto Hematology Analyzer). Results: The ethanolic extract of Fagonia cretica in doses of (100, 300 and 600) mg/kg/body weight) has different effects on the major blood cells in rats after the study period (14 - days) compared to the control group. Conclusion: Statistical analysis for evaluation of the extract affects different variant hematological parameters, but in general it is concluded that it raises the main blood parameters.

Effect of Fagonia cretica linn ethanolic extract on different hematological parameters in albino rats in Sudan

To estimate the relationship between volatile substances abuse (VSA) &prevalence of (HBV). Study was conducted in Om durman provinc Khartoum state Sudan during the period from (1/6/2013) and December 2013. A group of fifty Sudanese street children aged between (10 to 17 years) who are (VSA) in Khartoum state were assigned as cases. Control were fifty eight Sudanese individuals.(Non volatile substances abusers). A group comparison study was designed to collect data using a questionnaire. Blood samples from VSA, and control subjects from the community. The blood samples of both case and control were screened for HBV. The obtained results showed that there is a significant relationship between glue sniffing and the war, break of family link and other related reasons like, peer influence the statistical analysis of hepatitis B showed that the P value is 0.025 less than 0.05 which means that there is a significant relationship between VSA and HBV prevalence.

The use of the plants as medicines is an ancient and reliable practice. Fagonia Cretica is well known herbal plant used in traditional medicine of Pakistan, India and Far East, it is reputed to ob tain a profitable therapeutical properties and it has been used in treatment of fever, thirst, vomiting, dysentery, asthma, urinary discharges, and liver troubles. Externally applied as a paste on tumors and other swellings of the neck. Reported to possess potent antibacterial properties against pathogenic organisms, also the scientific studies of the plant proved the presence of hematological, neuro logical, anticancer, and hepato-activity. The present study targeted the study of antimicrobial properties of the extract. Different methods were adopted to achieve the objectives of this study this included Harborne methods for extraction the antimicrobi al activity was done using cup method. Both chloroformic and ethanolic extracts showed potential activity against the used microorganisms .
