Journal ArticleDOI

Pedigree analysis in four Slovak endangered horse breeds.

TL;DR: An analysis of genetic diversity in four endangered horse populations bred in Slovakia, describing parameters on the probability of identity by descent and gene origin found that the Hucul, Lipizzan, Shagya Arabian, and Slovak Sport Pony populations had high genetic diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genomic characterization of Pinzgau cattle: genetic conservation and breeding perspectives

TL;DR: A genome-wide scan of Slovak Pinzgau cattle was prepared for the first time in order to estimate their genetic diversity at a more detailed level compared to previously published studies, and established methodology how to distinguish genealogically close populations on high-throughput molecular information based on Slovak and Austrian PinzGau can be proposed as general for analysis of differences in all highly related breeds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic evaluation for length of productive life in Slovak Pinzgau cattle

TL;DR: The risk of culling was higher for cows with lower milk production relative to herd average, higher age at first calving and in herds decreasing in size, while in the first lactation the culling risk was highest at the beginning, and decreased during lactation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors affecting the functional length of productive life in Slovak Pinzgau cows

TL;DR: Cows from expanding herds were at lower risk to be culled compared to cows in herds of stable and decreasing size, and the effect of age at first calving did not have a large influence on the length of productive life.
Journal ArticleDOI

An economic impact of inbreeding in the purebred population of Pinzgau cattle in Slovakia on milk production traits

TL;DR: Increased inbreeding in the purebred population of Pinzgau cattle in Slovakia has a negative impact on SPI and EBV of milk, fat and protein production.
