According to the claimed invention, an image forming apparatus comprises an image forming unit which forms an image represented by data of a specific format; a reception unit which receives print data of each page containing object data representing each of a plurality of types of objects; a data rasterization unit which has object conversion units which convert the object data into data of the specific format; a composition unit which composites data of the specific format corresponding to the object data converted to page data of the specific format containing the object data; and a control unit which inputs the page data to a subsequent processing unit for each page to use the page data for image formation by the image forming unit, wherein the data rasterization unit converts object data into data of the specific format regardless of a break of each page containing the object data.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer provided with a print data processing means capable of fast performing suitable processing even of data where images, characters and graphics are overlapped. SOLUTION: A printer controller receiving a plotting instruction from a host interprets the plotting instruction and expands the plotting instruction into image data, then performs overlapping processing with RGB data and continuously stores attribute data corresponding to the processed image data in a memory in each pixel (diagram 6). The data set is read to an internal buffer by a DMA and simultaneously read to an image processing means from there, the RGB data are subjected to processing corresponding to the attribute, and the processed data are written in the memory again by the DMA and outputted as data for imaging to a printer engine. It is possible to perform faster processing because the use efficiency of the memory is improved and the load of a bus is also reduced.

CONSTITUTION:A controller 40 has a print address counter 41, a read address counter group 42 and a control designation register group 43, plural image file data stored in a storage device 10 are read selectively and outputted to an output device 20. That is, in editing and outputting the data of the plural image files on the same paper, the present address on the paper to be printed from a counter 41 and the print region corresponding to each file from the register group 43 are compared at first. Based on the result, plural image file data are read selectively from the device 10 and printed out sequentially on the same paper. Thus, the edition processing is simplified and the memory capacity is saved.
