Provided are a device for continuously producing poly(arylene sulfide) (hereinafter, referred to as PAS) and a method for continuous PAS production with which resource savings, energy savings, and a reduction in equipment cost are rendered possible. The device for continuous PAS production according to the present invention includes a housing chamber for housing a plurality of reaction cells; wherein the housing chamber is supplied with at least an organic amide solvent, a sulfur source, and a dihalo aromatic compound. In the reaction cells, the sulfur source is polymerized with the dihalo aromatic compound in the organic amide solvent to form a reaction mixture. The reaction cells communicate with each other through a gas phase within the housing chamber. The reaction cells are sequentially connected, and the reaction mixture sequentially moves to each reaction cell.

Provided is a method of producing polyarylene sulfide (PAS) that suppresses side reactions and produces PAS with a high purity and a high molecular weight at a high yield. A method of producing PAS in which a sulfur source and a dihalo aromatic compound are polymerized in an organic amide solvent, the method of producing PAS comprising the following steps 1 to 3:
 step 1: a preparation step of preparing a mixture containing an organic amide solvent, a sulfur source, water, a dihalo aromatic compound, and an alkali metal hydroxide in an amount that is less than an equimolar amount relative to the sulfur source; step 2: a first-stage polymerization step of initiating a polymerization reaction by heating the mixture, and producing a prepolymer having a dihalo aromatic compound conversion rate of 50% or greater; and step 3: a second-stage polymerization step of adding from 0.11 to 0.3 mol of an alkali metal hydroxide per 1 mol of the sulfur source, and continuing the polymerization reaction. A PAS polymerization reaction solution having a low content of byproduct. PAS having an average particle diameter of 10 to 5,000 a melt viscosity (temperature 310° C., shear rate 1,216 sec −1 ) of 0.1 to 3,000 Pa·s, and a nitrogen content of 750 ppm or less.

Alternatively, a production method for producing polyarylene sulfide including (a) a polymerization step, (d) a dehydration step, and (c) a recovery step for, during the dehydration step, recovering an unreacted dihalo aromatic compound from a water-containing mixture comprising a water-containing steam mixture and/or a water-containing liquid mixture containing a polymerization reaction liquid and/or a starting material mixture, by using steam distillation for adjusting the water reflux ratio in a steam distillation column without adding any water other than the refluxing water.

A method for producing polyarylene sulfide of the present invention includes the steps of: supplying reaction raw materials to at least one of a plurality of reaction vessels mutually communicated through a gas phase; carrying out a polymerization reaction; and removing at least some of the water present in the reaction vessels. Each of the steps is carried out in parallel, and a reaction mixture is transferred sequentially between the reaction vessels. At that time, the amount of heat that is removed in the polymerization reaction is less than the amount of reaction heat of the polymerization reaction.

Polyarylene sulfide production method and apparatus for continuous production of polyarylene sulfide

PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound without causing clogging of pipes, etc., by using simple equipment, by reacting a dihaloaromatic compound with an alkali metal sulfide in a solvent in an agitation tank of a specified structure and evaporating liquid components from a reaction slurry in the same tank. CONSTITUTION:A dihaloaromatic compound (e.g., p-dichlorobenzene) is polycondensed with an alkali sulfide (e.g., sodium sulfide in a solvent in an agitation tank equipped with an impeller of a diameter corresponding to 80-99% of the inside diameter of the tank and provided with heating and cooling means. After completion of the reaction, a liquid component is evaporated from the reaction slurry in the same agitation tank to separate a solid component, and a given amount of pure water is added to the solid component to dissolve the alkali metal halide contained in the solid in water. The mixture is centrifuged to produce a polyarylene sulfide. By recovering a solvent subsequently to the reaction in the same agitation tank, the titled compound can be produced with simple equipment without any trouble, such as clogging of pipes during transfer of the reaction product and the recovered solvent can be purified when the vaporized component is fractionated in an attached distillation tower.
