Dual-comb spectroscopy is an emerging new spectroscopic tool that exploits the frequency resolution, frequency accuracy, broad bandwidth, and brightness of frequency combs for ultrahigh-resolution, high-sensitivity broadband spectroscopy. By using two coherent frequency combs, dual-comb spectroscopy allows a sample’s spectral response to be measured on a comb tooth-by-tooth basis rapidly and without the size constraints or instrument response limitations of conventional spectrometers. This review describes dual-comb spectroscopy and summarizes the current state of the art. As frequency comb technology progresses, dual-comb spectroscopy will continue to mature and could surpass conventional broadband spectroscopy for a wide range of laboratory and field applications.

Dual-comb spectroscopy

The ground-state energy, electron density, and related properties of ordinary matter can be computed efficiently when the exchange-correlation energy as a functional of the density is approximated semilocally. We propose the first meta-GGA (meta-generalized gradient approximation) that is fully constrained, obeying all 17 known exact constraints that a meta-GGA can. It is also exact or nearly exact for a set of appropriate norms, including rare-gas atoms and nonbonded interactions. This SCAN (strongly constrained and appropriately normed) meta-GGA achieves remarkable accuracy for systems where the exact exchange-correlation hole is localized near its electron, and especially for lattice constants and weak interactions.

a b s t r a c t The ab initio quasirelativistic Hartree–Fock method developed specifically for the calculation of spectral parameters of heavy atoms and highly charged ions is used to derive transition data for a multicharged tungsten ion. The configuration interaction method is applied to include electron correlation effects. The relativistic effects are taken into account in the Breit–Pauli approximation for quasirelativistic Hartree–Fock radial orbitals. The energy level spectra, radiative lifetimes and Lande gfactors are calculated for the 4p 6 4d 2 , 4p 6 4d4f, and 4p 5 4d 3 configurations of the ion W 36+ . The transition wavelengths, spontaneous transition probabilities, oscillator strengths, and line strengths for the electric dipole, electric quadrupole, electric octupole, and magnetic dipole transitions among the levels of these configurations are tabulated.
