PVTxy properties of CO2 mixtures relevant for CO2 capture, transport and storage: Review of available experimental data and theoretical models

Vapor−liquid equilibrium data and density of the liquid phase for binary systems of carbon dioxide + methanol, hydrogen + methanol, and carbon dioxide + hydrogen at high pressures were determined. A dynamic technique with liquid-phase recirculation and on-line gas chromatography was used in this study. The equilibrium data and density were measured at temperatures between 278.15 K and 308.15 K, and pressures between 15 bar and 192.53 bar. The isothermal volume expansion behavior for the carbon dioxide + methanol system at various temperatures was also determined.

CO2 transport: Data and models – A review

The study of phase equilibria in hydrogen-containing mixtures is essential for petroleum and chemical engineering, electricity production, transportation and for many other energy needs. Fluid-phase diagrams are however atypical because of the size-asymmetric nature of these mixtures and the quantum behavior of hydrogen. Therefore, the development of a thermodynamic model able to accurately predict the phase behavior of such systems over wide ranges of pressure and temperature is a difficult and challenging task. In this work, the H2 group is added to the well-established PPR78 model in order to predict mutual solubility and critical loci of hydrogen-containing systems. Such a model combines the widely used Peng–Robinson equation of state (EoS) with a group-contribution method aimed at estimating the temperature-dependent binary interaction parameters [kij(T)]. In our previous papers, 15 groups were defined: CH3, CH2, CH, C, CH4 (methane), C2H6 (ethane), CHaro, Caro, Cfused aromatic rings, CH2,cyclic, CHcyclic ⇔ Ccyclic, CO2, N2, H2S, and SH. It was thus possible to estimate the kij for any mixture containing alkanes, aromatics, naphthenes, CO2, N2, H2S and mercaptans regardless of the temperature. In this study, the addition of the H2 group makes it possible to extend the PPR78 model to hydrogen-containing systems.

Phase equilibria in hydrogen-containing binary systems modeled with the Peng–Robinson equation of state and temperature-dependent binary interaction parameters calculated through a group-contribution method

: An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the liquid-vapor phase equilibria of the hydrogen-carbon dioxide system. The experimental apparatus used in the investigation was a vapor recirculation type flow system provided with facilities for accurately controlling the temperature and measuring the pressure, and for sampling the equilibrium phases. Gas chromatography was used for analyzing the samples. The system was studied in the temperature range 220 K to 290 K and at pressures up to 200 atmospheres. This region is covered by six isotherms at nominal temperatures of 220, 230, 245, 260, 275, and 290 K. The results are presented in tabular form and graphically as mole percent hydrogen versus pressure and in expanded form as mole percent of the minor component versus pressure. K-Factors were calculated from the results and are presented graphically. The data of this investigation are compared with the other published data on the hydrogen-carbon dioxide system The analytical accuracy is believed to be within plus or minus 3% of the reported data with temperatures accurate to plus or minus 0.1 K and pressures below 100 atm are plus or minus 0.1 atm, while those above 100 atms are plus or minus 0.3 atm.
