Combining resistance to late blight and pvy in potato

Abstract: An attempt was made to develop potato hybrids with combined resistance to late blight and potato virus Y. Five crosses were made between the late blight resistant (PVY susceptible-nulliplex) and PVY resistant (duplex, late blight susceptible) parents and progenies were screened for both the diseases. The present study reveals that there is ample scope to combine high yield with late blight and PVY resistance in potato.

Pattern of chip colour segregation in some crosses of potato

Abstract: Pattern of chip colour distribution in the progenies of six crosses was studied in the first clonal generation at CPRS, Kufri. Chip colour distribution varied with cross combinations and frequency of getting excellent chip colour (score 1) was very low (1-5%) in these progenies. Clones with acceptable chips colour were obtained from both type of crosses i.e. good x good chipper and good x poor chipper, but the colour score was better in the latter. Cross combinations MP/97-583 x JEX/A-680-16, MP/97-628 x CP 2417 and MP/97-921 x CP 2132 produced higher percent (40%) of clones with lighter chip colour (< 3) and could be exploited for developing varieties for processing.

Screening of wild and cultivated species of potato for frost tolerance in north-central plains of india

Abstract: One hundred nineteen accessions of 24 wild and cultivated species of potato were screened for frost tolerance and 18 accessions viz., SS 1636-3, 1660-4, 1724-1, 1725-22, 1725-43, 1725-44, 1725-70, 1725-74, 1725-76, 1725-78, 1725-93, 1732-8, 1770-11, 1780-3, 2040, 2038-5, 2040-13 and 2044-1 were found frost tolerant. Species S. spegazzinii (diploid) S. demissum (hexaploid) and S. tuberosum ssp. andigena (tetraploid) were found promising for frost tolerance.

Base‐Catalyzed Mitsunobu Reactions as a Tool for the Synthesis of Aryl sec‐Alkyl Ethers.

Abstract: A facile and versatile method for the synthesis of aryl sec-alkyl ethers from phenols with alcohols in the presence of base via a Mitsunobu reaction is described.
