Measuring the Impact of Learning Organization on Job Satisfaction and Individual Performance in Greek Advertising Sector

Purpose




The purpose of this paper is to investigate the usage of university Facebook (FB) groups and sites by undergraduate students seeking information about their departments and the ways these pages could be used to acquire students. The factors that can intensify the FB group activities of a university are examined as well as how FB can be used as a marketing tool to improve marketing campaigns.




Design/methodology/approach




The study investigates and compares two universities: the University of Novi Sad of the Republic of Serbia and the Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia, Greece. A structured questionnaire was used with samples of 343 and 300 students gathered in this survey.




Findings




An enhanced technology acceptance model oriented toward FB is presented and it is the conceptual background of the paper. Student demographics and behavioral characteristics of the FB group they enrolled on were determined. Common behavioral patterns of the usage tension of the FB group are also identified. Additionally, five factors were determined that can be used by university marketers to intensify engagement with the FB group.




Research limitations/implications




Larger samples should be used for future research.




Originality/value




The paper proposes a marketing strategy a higher education institution should follow to more effectively use social networking sites as a marketing tool.

Effective social media marketing strategy: Facebook as an opportunity for universities

Social networking sites and Facebook have grown to become an important channel of interactive marketing communication with consumers for retail. The purpose of this paper is to examine the ways posts characteristics and reactions affect post popularity and engagement in retail brands Facebook pages.,In total, 18 retail brand pages out of the 120 most popular brand pages on Facebook in Greece are examined for a three months’ period (April–June 2016). In all, 2,627 posts are analyzed with the use of OLS regressions in order to identify the characteristics of posts that increase consumers’ engagement, including the newly introduced reaction feature.,The results suggest that richness of content (images and videos) and message length increase the engagement levels and the popularity of posts. Reactions have a positive effect on engagement, and negative reactions stronger than positive reactions, except in sharing. On the other hand, posting time does not seem to have a statistically significant impact on the engagement and popularity of a post.,The study was conducted during a period that reactions were only recently introduced by Facebook, therefore users and brands may not have been familiarized with their use.,The study contributes to the understanding of consumer engagement with retail brands’ pages on Facebook and social media, and the ways they use reactions and other ways of interactions with brand posts. The results can provide some insight to retailers on how to achieve higher levels of engagement for their brands through their Facebook pages, improving the effectiveness of social media marketing campaigns.,The findings contribute in understanding the ways users interact with brand posts in Facebook using reactions, using a number of popularity measures, providing useful insights about reactions, engagement and e-WoM, extending prior research.

Social Networking Sites possess a dominant position in the agenda of marketers and academics around the world. Despite the penetration, social media and SNSs have in all demographic categories, young persons and students still remain the main users. This paper examines the usage patterns of social media and social networking sites by college students. 512 students of TEI of Western Macedonia have participated in our research, answering questions regarding 18 different usages of SNSs. Four main categories of SNSs usage patterns were identified, that were used along with six more variables to identify segments of SNS users, following the typology proposed by Brandtzaeg and Heim (2011). Our findings indicate the existence of four segments of SNSs users. Results are discussed under the prism of the Greek economic crisis, and the implications they have for marketers in planning and implementing social media marketing strategies.

Social Networking Sites’ Usage in a Period of Crisis. A Segmentation Analysis of Greek College Students

Social Networking Sites has been in the centre of attention of marketers and academics during the last 15 years as an important tool for communicating with consumers. SNSs are being used by people in all demographic categories, but it is commonly acceptable that millenials are the main users of those platforms. The reasons that motivate people use SNSs have been examined by relevant literature thoroughly but not sufficient attention was paid in the formation of segments of users. This paper aims to shed light in the ways that college students are using social media and social networking sites, and identify segments of users in this demographic group. Our research surveys the SNS usage of 535 students in the TEI of Western Macedonia, exploring the frequency of 18 actions users of SNSs usually perform. Principal Component Analysis designated 4 main categories of SNSs usage, that were used along with additional variables to segment college students according to their behaviour and usage patterns of SNSs. Our results indicated the existence of 4 segments of SNSs users, contributing to the discussion on SNSs usage and customer segmentation extending the relevant literature and providing useful insights for marketers in planning social media marketing innovative strategies.

Social Network Sites' usage among Greek students in Western Macedonia

This article examines the implementation of succession human resources (HR) planning in law enforcement agencies. Α quantitative–descriptive survey was carried out, and questionnaires were completed by 302 executives from Greek law enforcement agencies (Hellenic Police and Hellenic Coastguard), through random sampling. The survey highlighted severe concerns, reflecting a lack of implementation of succession HR planning in both agencies. Succession HR planning, defined as the timely handling of personnel needs (qualitative–quantitative) required for the organization to maintain its performance at high levels, is applied to a minimum extent in the Hellenic Police and Hellenic Coastguard. It seems that these organizations do not follow a specific plan to cover their needs in personnel or other operational matters. The study makes a significant contribution on a theoretical and practical level. The research exposes the problem of the non-implementation of succession HR planning in law enforcement agencies. Using the data highlighted by this study, these agencies will be able to implement HR planning to maximize personnel performance and respond to the crucial role they play in society. Future research in law enforcement agencies over the wider area of Greece or other countries should be conducted to draw more representative conclusions.
