Deep drawing process, one of sheet metal forming
methods, is very useful in industrial field because of its
efficiency. The production of optimal products using this
process is dependent on the process variables such as blank
shapes, profile radii of punch and die, and formability of
materials. Of the variables, the blank shape is very important
since it controls the formability factor. This paper reports the
investigations on three kinds of blank shapes and the scribed
circle test on three deformation modes. The punch load
distribution for elliptical forming processes were measured
under different conditions of profile radii of punch and die
and discussed here. These experiments clarified the influence
of the profile radii of the punch and die and the blank shape
on the punch-load distribution for the elliptical deep drawing
product of automobile parts. The aim of this study is to
investigate the effect that the process variables have on
drawability in a non-axisymmetric elliptical deep-drawing
process and to obtain useful data from the industrial field.

Effects of punch load for elliptical deep drawing productof automotive parts

This paper deals with modeling, discretization, and numerical analysis of the two-way fluid-structure interaction between a fishing wobbler and a water stream. The structural domain is an assembly of several bodies that have multiple mutual structure-to-structure interactions. These interactions are mostly nonlinear contacts that significantly influence the time step used in simulations. As a result of these nonlinearities, the numerical solving of such a model requires significant computer resources and a long computational time. The paper also presents the creation and numerical simplifications of the model. However, the model remains very realistic. It is concluded that solving the structural domain in a model that retains the interaction between solid bodies is more computationally sensitive and more demanding than solving the fluid domain.

Numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction between fishing wobbler and water

Tube hydroforming is a special process which utilizes a liquid medium to form the tube into required shape. This method has an advantage of attaining uniform pressure all through the tube at any time throughout the process. The forming limit curve (FLC) of SS 304 tubes at different annealed temperatures viz., 150 °C, 200 °C and 250 °C were investigated and compared with as received condition. Effects of annealing temperatures on FLC and bulge height of the hydroformed tube were studied. Numerical simulation of FLCs in tube hydroforming with different L/D ratios and diverse boundary settings were judged to extend wide variety of strain paths. The obtained FLD from the simulations were compared with other two different models to predict the accuracy of the FLD models. Numerical simulations confirmed that the annealing temperatures had an effect on the FLC of hydroformed tube. The forming limit increased with temperature up to 200 °C, and decreased slightly at 250 °C temperature.

Multi parameter optimization of deep drawing for cylindrical cup formation on brass sheets using Grey Relational Analysis

Springback is a crucial factor that influences the feature of sheet metal in the sheet metal forming (SMF). In SMF operations, springback of the component during unloading mostly determines whether the component confirms to the design dimensions and tolerances. The aim of the current work is to analyze the importance of forming parameters on the responses: punch force and springback in U-Bending of SS 304. Strip length, punch speed and lubricant with three levels each have been considered in the current work as the forming parameters. The effects of different process parameters on U-bending of sheet metal have been investigated by conducting experiments on SS 304. Experiments have been conducted as per Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array. The optimum conditions have been determined based on their effect on punch force and springback of the sheet metal.

Optimization of the Forming Parameters in U-Bending for Punch Force and Springback Using Taguchi Method

Deep drawing process is a significant metal forming process used in the sheet metal forming operations. From this process, complex shapes can be manufactured with fewer defects. Deep drawing process has different effectible process parameters from which an optimum level of parameters can be identified so that an efficient final product with required mechanical properties will be obtained. The present work is to evaluate the formability of different metal sheets using deep drawing process. In which effects of different sheets and die/blank holder angle on deep drawing process observed for sheet metal of 0.8mm of SS304 and Brass and 0.9 mm of Al. The experiments were performed by designing the deep drawing tools such as die, blank holder, and punch. In addition, the numerical simulations are performed for deep drawing of cylindrical cups using three levels of previously mentioned. Punch forces and dome heights are evaluated for all the conditions. From this work, the formability for different metal sheets is observed for angular geometries of deep drawing tools. Moreover, it is observed that strain formation is more for the brass sheet and stress is more for aluminium sheets.
