Mapping evolutionary process: a multi‐taxa approach to conservation prioritization
Henri A. Thomassen,Trevon Fuller,Wolfgang Buermann,Borja Milá,Borja Milá,Charles M. Kieswetter,Pablo Jarrín-V,Susan E. Cameron,Eliza Mason,Eliza Mason,Rena M. Schweizer,Jasmin Schlunegger,Janice Chan,Ophelia Wang,Manuel Peralvo,Christopher J. Schneider,Catherine H. Graham,John P. Pollinger,Sassan Saatchi,Sassan Saatchi,Robert K. Wayne,Thomas B. Smith +21 more
TL;DR: This work uses modeling approaches in conjunction with environmental variables to model species distributions and patterns of genetic and morphological variation in seven Ecuadorian amphibian, bird, and mammal species and implies that in order to maximize representation of intraspecific variation in reserves, genetic and Morphological variation should be included in conservation prioritization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flower Visitation by Bats in Cloud Forests of Western Ecuador1
Nathan Muchhala,Pablo Jarrín-V +1 more
TL;DR: Results of a yearlong study of a bat–flower community in cloud forests on the western slopes of the Ecuadoran Andes present the first direct evidence of bat pollination for those plants identified to species, including four species of Burmeistera (Campanulaceae) and a plant of the genus Meriania (Melastomataceae).
A new species of spiny pocket mouse (Heteromyidae, Heteromys) endemic to western Ecuador. American Museum novitates ; no. 3382
TL;DR: A new species, Heteromys teleus, found only in evergreen forests of central-western Ecuador, in areas less mesic and more seasonal than those characteristic of H. australis is described, which is unique within currently recognized species of mammals.
Journal ArticleDOI
A New Species of Spiny Pocket Mouse (Heteromyidae: Heteromys) Endemic to Western Ecuador
TL;DR: A new species, Heteromys teleus as discussed by the authors, was found only in evergreen forests of central-western Ecuador, in areas less mesic and more seasonal than those characteristic of H. australis.
Journal ArticleDOI
"Horchata" drink in Southern Ecuador: medicinal plants and people's wellbeing.
Montserrat Rios,Montserrat Rios,Fani Tinitana,Pablo Jarrín-V,Natalia Donoso,Juan Carlos Romero-Benavides +5 more
TL;DR: The combined results of the FL and FIC indices, the cluster analysis, and the field observations reveal an agreement among vendors on 16 medicinal plant species and their therapeutic use of the “horchata” drink.
