The Nature of the Child

The European Union member states received about 385,000 asylum applications from children and adolescents below 18 years in 2015, and 398,000 in 2016. The latest political crises and war have led to an upsurge in refugee movements into European countries, giving rise to a re-evaluation of the epidemiology of psychiatric disorders and mental health problems among young refugees and asylum seekers. We systematically searched five electronic databases and reference lists of pertinent review articles. We then screened the results of forward citation tracking of key articles for relevant studies in the field for the period from January 1990 to October 2017. We dually reviewed citations and assessed risk of bias. We reported the results narratively, as meta-analyses were impeded due to high heterogeneity. We included 47 studies covered in 53 articles. Overall, the point prevalence of the investigated psychiatric disorders and mental health problems varied widely among studies (presenting interquartile ranges): for posttraumatic stress disorder between 19.0 and 52.7%, for depression between 10.3 and 32.8%, for anxiety disorders between 8.7 and 31.6%, and for emotional and behavioural problems between 19.8 and 35.0%. The highly heterogeneous evidence base could be improved by international, methodologically comparable studies with sufficiently large sample sizes drawn randomly among specific refugee populations. The prevalence estimates suggest, nevertheless, that specialized mental health care services for the most vulnerable refugee and asylum-seeking populations are needed. Prevalence of mental disorders in young refugees and asylum seekers in European Countries: a systematic review.

The present study aimed to: (a) investigate the relationship between attitudes toward same-sex parenting and sexism both in heterosexuals and sexual minorities; (b) verify whether sexism predicted negative attitudes toward same-sex parenting via the mediating role of sexual stigma (sexual prejudice in heterosexual people and internalized sexual stigma [ISS] in lesbians and gay men [LG]). An Italian sample of 477 participants (65.6% heterosexual people and 34.4% LG people) was used to verify three hypotheses: (a) heterosexual men showed higher levels of sexism than heterosexual women and LG people; (b) heterosexual men reported more negative attitudes toward same-sex parenting than those of heterosexual women and LG people; and (c) sexual prejudice in heterosexual people and ISS in LG people mediated the relationship between sexism and attitudes toward same-sex parenting. Overall, men and heterosexual people showed stronger sexist tendencies and more negative attitudes toward same-sex parenting. Moreover, sexism affected attitudes toward same-sex parenting via sexual prejudice in heterosexual people and ISS in LG people. These results suggest that negative attitudes toward same-sex parenting reflect sociocultural inequalities based on the traditional gender belief system and points to the necessity of social policies to reduce prejudice toward sexual minority groups.

Sexism and Attitudes Toward Same-Sex Parenting in a Sample of Heterosexuals and Sexual Minorities: the Mediation Effect of Sexual Stigma

In Italia, da un paio decenni, si e andato affermando un nuovo welfare privato per la cura e l’assistenza a domicilio degli anziani dove ad occuparsene sono quasi esclusivamente donne di origine straniera. Quasi un milione di loro ha intrapreso la migrazione verso l’Italia come strategia di tipo familiare, lasciando nel Paese d’origine figli, mariti e genitori anziani.
Da un punto di vista pedagogico, non si puo fare a meno di considerare l’esperienza di queste lavoratrici e madri a distanza, ne si possono trascurare le loro condizioni di potenziale vulnerabilita dell’essere donne, straniere, inserite in un settore lavorativo poco tutelato e svalorizzato, esposto inoltre ai rischi propri delle professioni di cura. 
Una nuova frontiera per gli studi pedagogici sembra allora delinearsi nel promuovere un sostegno alla genitorialita finalizzato al mantenimento delle relazioni familiari a distanza o ad accompagnare i ricongiungimenti familiari. 
La tesi, riconoscendo un possibile legame tra il sostegno alla genitorialita e il benessere dei nuclei familiari, ha realizzato uno studio di caso multiplo su tre progetti realizzati in Italia. Basandosi sui dati empirici emersi vengono delineate alcune linee guida per la futura progettazione di interventi di sostegno alle famiglie transnazionali.

The Italian situation of lesbian women-parented families seems to be trapped between a deprivation of public and legal acknowledgment and the reality of everyday lives of lesbian women having children in a same-sex relationship context experiencing this ambivalence in their personal, familiar, and social existence. The aim of this study is to analyze the narratives of 17 lesbian mothers (10 biological mothers and seven social mothers) in order to outline the construction of their identities as parents, their affective relationships with the partner (social mother), and the relationships established with public agencies (school, neighborhood, family networks). Results show that lesbian maternity has strong political and social implications. In particular, our analysis underlines the libertarian extent of lesbian maternity paths, often based on equal roles and promoting the enlargement of the concepts of family. Summary .-The representation of serial killers was examined from the analysis of 317 Web pages in he Italian language to study how the psychological profiles of serial lc~llers are described on the Italian Internet. The correspondence analysis of the content of these Web pages shows that in Italy the serial killer is associated with words such as "monster" and "horror," which suggest and imply psychological perversion and aberrant acts. These traits are peculiar for the Italian scenario.
