o-Hydroxyphenyl-s-triazines of the formula I in which n is 1 to 4 and R1 to R7 are as defined in claim 1, can be used, in combination with sterically hindered amines of the polyalkylpiperidine type, for stabilizing organic polymers. Some of these compounds are novel and can also be used without polyalkylpiperidine.

Compsns. are claimed which comprise organic materials stabilised against light, oxygen and/or heat by inclusion of 2,4,6-triaryl-1,3,5-triazines or 2,4,6-triaryl-1,3- pyrimidines of formula (I) which act as crypto-light protectants, there also being claimed some of (I) which are novel cpds., such cpds. differing from (I) in the definitions of R , R and R . n = 1 or 2; A = N or CH; R and R = e.g. H, 1-4C alkyl or -OR ; R and R = e.g. H; 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy; O- interrupted and OR -substd. 3-12C alkoxy; Cl or OR ; R or -O.R or, when R and R are not OR , also H; R = e.g. H or 1-10C alkyl; R = e.g. COR or SO2R ; R = e .g.1-8C alkyl; R = e,g. 1-3C alkyl, CF3, CCl3, 1-4C alkoxy, 2 or 3C alkenyl, Ph, tolyl or xylyl; R = e.g. 1-8C alkyl or Ph; R = e.g. Ph or 7-9C alkylphenyl; R = e.g. H, oxyl, 1-12C alkyl, 1-18C alkoxy, cyclohexyloxy or 7-11C phenylalkyl; and R = e.g. 1-18C alkyl, allyl, or 1-12C alkyl substd. by -OR , 1-18C alkoxy, -COOR and/or -O.CO.R .

Latent light stabilizers

Radiation crosslinkable, water-dispersable polyesters and polyesteramides derived from monomer components which include dicarboxylic acids, poly(ethylene glycol), monomer components substituted with a sulfonate metal salt group and α,β-unsaturated acids. A typical polyester is composed of 80 mole parts of isophthalic acid, 10 mole parts of 4-carboxycinnamic acid, 10 mole parts of 5-sodiosulfoisophthalate, and 100 mole parts diethylene glycol. The polyesters and polyesteramides may also include monomer components such as hydroxycarboxylic acid, aminocarboxylic acid, aminoalcohol, glycol, diamine or combinations of such components. Such polymers are useful as adhesives, coating materials, films, packaging materials and other products. The polymers can be dissolved, dispersed or otherwise dissipated in water or aqueous solutions, dried and subsequently cured by radiation.

The present invention provides carboxylic acid amides of the formula IN WHICH X represents methyl or tertiary butyl, m is the integer 1 or 2, Q represents hydrogen, alkyl, alkylidene, cycloalkylidene, substituted methylene, alkylene, alkenylene or a 3,4,5 or 6-valent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical and p represents an integer which corresponds to the valency of the radical Q. These carboxylic acid amides are suitable for stabilizing organic materials sensitive to oxidations.

The compounds may be applied to textile materials to provide a preserving and disinfectant finish.
