Journal ArticleDOI
Endemic Melioidosis in Tropical Northern Australia: A 10-Year Prospective Study and Review of the Literature
Bart J. Currie,Dale A. Fisher,Diane M. Howard,James N. C. Burrow,David Lo,Sid Selva-nayagam,Nicholas M. Anstey,S. Huffam,Paul Snelling,Paul J. Marks,Diane P. Stephens,Gary D. Lum,Susan P. Jacups,Vicki Krause +13 more
TL;DR: Intensive therapy with ceftazidime or carbapenems, followed by at least 3 months of eradication therapy with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, was associated with decreased mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
The epidemiology of melioidosis in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Bart J. Currie,Dale Fisher,Diane M. Howard,James Burrow,Sudarshan Selvanayagam,Paul Snelling,Nicholas M. Anstey,Mark Mayo +7 more
TL;DR: Pneumonia was the commonest presentation in both groups and, in addition, eight patients (two deaths) presented with melioidosis encephalomyelitis, the commonmost cause of fatal community-acquired septicemic pneumonia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Confidence limits of arteriovenous fistula flow rate measured by the ‘on‐line’ thermodilution technique
TL;DR: Application demonstrates an accurate measurement of low flow, but limitations at higher flow and in detecting falls in flow, and appreciating the magnitude of such is critical to informed clinical decision making when using flow rate in an access surveillance programme.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of a multidisciplinary team approach upon patency rates of arteriovenous fistulae
TL;DR: The team approach to fistula surgery, with a dedicated theatre list, prolongs fistula patency, plus allows the surgeon to steep at night, and an interposition graft should be avoided whenever possible.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of failure of native arteriovenous fistulas using 'on-line' fistula flow measurements
TL;DR: The value of blood flow measurements was assessed in a group of patients on maintenance haemodialysis, with access via native arteriovenous fistulas, to detect incipient fistula failure.
