Ease of use and usefulness are believed to be fundamental in determining the acceptance and use of various, corporate ITs. These beliefs, however, may not explain the user’s behavior toward newly emerging ITs, such as the World-Wide-Web (WWW). In this study, we introduce playfulness as a new factor that reflects the user’s intrinsic belief in WWW acceptance. Using it as an intrinsic motivation factor, we extend and empirically validate the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for the WWW context. # 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Beyond the Usefulness and Ease of Use : Extending the TAM for a World - Wide - Web Context

Existing perceived usability questionnaires detect the appearance of usability issues rather than the underlying design generating those issues. This limits the capability of existing instruments to directly inform design recommendations. To address this problem, a usability questionnaire structured around the analytical composition of the design was created and validated. A four-stage process was followed. First, 3 usability experts refined 54 questions from highly cited usability questionnaires and structured them around 6 design dimensions. Second, 12 raters scored the questions by their relevance to assess usability. Third, questions and dimensions were then improved through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (N = 196) and, fourth, further enhanced through confirmatory factor analysis (N = 362). The objective of this paper is to develop a model for content preparation of websites. Content preparation describes a process of web design that equally weighs the identification of information requirements with the presentation modes of that information. This paper focuses on what information should be available on the web instead of how the information should be presented. It reviews studies concerning: (a) credibility evaluation of printed media; (b) quality dimensions of information systems; (c) Internet domain-specific information needs. Based on the review, two key figures synthesise the aspects related to content preparation. First, the convergence hierarchy integrates domain-specific components into a general information structure. Second, the conceptual model proposed eight factors for effective content preparation. Foundations of content preparation for the web

A web site that appeals to all audiences is the “holy grail” of developers, but is not likely to be found. Therefore, organisations must decide what groups of users they want to target and gain a thorough knowledge of their needs and preferences. In this pilot study, we grouped users according to their purpose for using the Web and examined their preferences for web design features. We found that a user’s preference for web design features changed according to the user’s purposes for using the web. People using the web for entertainment valued enjoyability, accessibility and content quality most highly. People using the web for information acquisition ranked content quality, accessibility, and navigation and structure in the top three places.
