"Meet the Frumbles" is a group of felt robotic characters that talk amongst themselves and interact with the audience. Empathy, cuteness and gags are explored as communicational facilitators and ludic interaction between a felt robot creature's orchestra and its human conductor. Creative coding using computer vision, electronic prototyping and physical actuators was used to implement the autonomous physical existence, sensing and behavior of creatures.

A Brief Overview on the Evolution of Drawing Machines

MaLaKuLa is an art installation to be discovered by people walking along the beach. It explores familiar nature elements in their natural context to build a poetical digital experience where the nature elements become interfaces for unexpected narratives.In this installation, curious spectators surprised by the sounds of two "magical" sea shells, explore them to find that they are being taken through a journey of mysterious soundscapes: the sounds of Malakula, telling stories of a lost island in the Pacific Ocean. The narrative takes the listener to an imaginary magical place where one hears the call of the spirits of the land and sea.

MaLaKuLa: stories inside "magical" seashells

Humans communicate social intentions through patterns of nonverbal language, using posture, gestures and body motion. This social signalling is present in human to human interaction as well as in human-computer interaction. Our daily dependence on computers emphasizes the need and importance for good interaction quality. While humans have an innate ability to recognize and respond to social signalling, machines don’t. Our work aims to develop a Social Signal Processing model based on features extracted using simple video processing techniques, applied in a real context and running in real-time, to predict interaction’s difficulties and problems. In this study we report a preliminary model where features extracted from user motion within 60 seconds of video recordings can predict 46,6% of variance in task difficulty.
