Metalloproteinase-2 and -9 in Giant Cell Arteritis Involvement in Vascular Remodeling
Alicia Rodriguez-Pla,Bosch-Gil Ja,Jose Rossello-Urgell,Pere Huguet-Redecilla,John H. Stone,Miquel Vilardell-Tarrés +5 more
TL;DR: MMP-9 appears more likely than MMP-2 to be involved in the pathophysiology of GCA, and not only participates in the degradation of elastic tissue but also is associated with intimal hyperplasia, subsequent luminal narrowing, and neoangiogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
No detection of parvovirus B19 or herpesvirus DNA in giant cell arteritis
Alicia Rodriguez-Pla,Alicia Rodriguez-Pla,Bosch-Gil Ja,Juan Emilio Echevarría-Mayo,Jose Rossello-Urgell,Roser Solans-Laqué,Pere Huguet-Redecilla,John H. Stone,Miquel Vilardell-Tarrés +8 more
TL;DR: The results of this study do not support a role in the etiopathogenesis of GCA for either parvovirus B19 or any of these six herpesviruses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposal to decrease the number of negative temporal artery biopsies
Alicia Rodriguez-Pla,J. Rossello-Urgell,J. A. Bosch‐Gil,Pere Huguet-Redecilla,Miquel Vilardell-Tarrés +4 more
TL;DR: Careful assessment of patients with clinically suspected GCA to rule out artery abnormalities, scalp tenderness, and jaw claudication can lead to a dramatic decrease in the percentage of negative biopsies, which may contribute to improving the physician's decision‐making process when contemplating TAB.
