Tracking animals in freshwater with electronic tags: past, present and future
Steven J. Cooke,Jonathan D. Midwood,Jason D. Thiem,Peter A. Klimley,Martyn C. Lucas,Eva B. Thorstad,John H. Eiler,Christopher M. Holbrook,Brendan C. Ebner +8 more
TL;DR: Current and future advances will continue to improve knowledge of the natural history of aquatic animals and ecological processes in freshwater ecosystems while facilitating evidence-based resource management and conservation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demographic Processes Underlying Subtle Patterns of Population Structure in the Scalloped Hammerhead Shark, Sphyrna lewini
TL;DR: The data and analyses suggest that S. lewini was far more abundant throughout the EP in the past than at present, and that all populations have experienced a bottleneck and all current values of θ are at least an order of magnitude smaller than ancestral θ, indicating large decreases in Ne.
Journal ArticleDOI
Movements of brown smoothhounds, Mustelus henlei, in Tomales Bay, California
Brent R. Campos,Brent R. Campos,Maxfield A. Fish,Gardner J. Jones,Rebecca W. Riley,Peter J. Allen,Peter J. Allen,Peter A. Klimley,Joseph J. Cech,John T. Kelly,John T. Kelly +10 more
TL;DR: Two female sharks were tracked on a fine scale over three tracking sessions in July 2004 and both individuals exhibited higher rates of movement during the night compared to the day, while one shark’s rate of movement was not significantly affected by tidal stage, the other's was (P < 0.01).
Journal ArticleDOI
Temperature preferences of hardhead Mylopharodon conocephalus and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss in an annular chamber
TL;DR: A 3-m-diameter, annular preference apparatus made of clear, acrylic plastic capable of presenting uniform light intensities, constant water depths and velocities, and stable vertical and horizontal temperature gradients for experimental fish is constructed and determined preferred temperatures of hardhead and rainbow trout.
Journal ArticleDOI
The impact of climate change on the distribution of Sphyrna lewini in the tropical eastern Pacific.
Aura María Rodriguez Burgos,Francisco Javier Briceño Zuluaga,Julián Leonardo Ávila Jiménez,Alex Hearn,Cesar Peñaherrera-Palma,Eduardo Espinoza,James T. Ketchum,Peter A. Klimley,Todd M. Steiner,Randall Arauz,Elpis Joan +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors evaluate the effect of derivate impact of climate change on the oceanographic distribution of the common hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, contrasting the present and future scenarios for 2050.
