A structural grid is provided with continuous and discontinuous beam members coupled by splices, a front structure coupled to the structural grid, the front structure including a walkway and cables, a radome coupled to the front structure. The structural grid is coupled to a plurality of antenna subassemblies. The antenna subassemblies have a forward housing including an RF manifold coupled to a circulator, an aft housing coupled to the forward housing, containing a line replaceable unit that is serviceable or maintainable through the aft housing.

Modular active phased array

A radio communication system including multiple antenna elements divided into subgroups of at least two antenna elements, and multiple line cards operable to employ spatial processing techniques. Each line card is coupled to a subgroup such that the line card may transmit and receive signals using the subgroup. A base station for use in a radio communication system includes one or more line cards. Each line card includes an antenna interface used to couple the line card to a subgroup of multiple antenna elements, a radio frequency component coupled to the antenna interface, and a signal processing component coupled to the radio frequency component such that the line card is operable to transmit and receive radio frequency communications. A method for providing increased capacity in a radio communication system includes dividing an antenna array, creating N subgroups of antenna elements, and for each of the N subgroups of antenna elements, coupling a line card to the subgroup of antenna elements. Each line card is operable to communicate using its coupled subgroup of antenna elements.

Beamforming using subset of antenna array

A card-based diversity antenna structure includes a card and at least two antenna elements. The card has active circuitry attached thereto and connectors located at a first end thereof configured for engagement with an interface slot. The at least two antenna elements are attached to the card at a second end thereof and are coupled to the active circuitry. At least two antenna elements are sufficiently spaced apart so as to achieve spatial diversity. The polarizations of two of the at least two antenna elements may be orthogonal to each other so as to achieve polarization diversity. The antenna structure delivers good receive and transmit diversity performance and is well suited to the form factor limits imposed by the dimensions of small cards, such as PCMCIA cards. The configuration is very convenient for application in the 5 to 6 GHz frequency band.

Card-based diversity antenna structure for wireless communications

An antenna control system enabling the remote variation of antenna beam tilt. A drive means continuously adjusts phase shifters of a feed distribution network to radiating elements to continuously vary antenna beam tilt. A controller enables the beam tilt of a number of antenna at a site to be remotely varied.

Antenna control system

A radiator includes a waveguide having an aperture and a patch antenna disposed in the aperture. In one embodiment, an antenna includes an array of waveguide antenna elements, each element having a cavity, and an array of patch antenna elements including an upper patch element and a lower patch element disposed in the cavity.

Slot coupled, polarized, egg-crate radiator

A phased array antenna includes a plurality of planar panels each having opposing sides and top and bottom edges and forming an antenna face. Each planar panel is disposed circumferentially about a central axis and is connected to adjacent panels along the sides thereof. Each panel is inclined toward the central axis from the bottom edge. A plurality of antenna elements are positioned on each panel. Each panel includes substantially the same number of antenna elements as adjacent panels and forms an antenna array on each antenna face. A plurality of transmit/receive modules generates and receives signals, and each transmit/receive module corresponds to a respective antenna element on an antenna array. Means connects each of the transmit/receive modules to respective pluralities of the antenna elements within each array. A switch collectively controls the connection of the transmit/receive modules to respective antenna elements of one selected antenna array so that the transmit/receive modules are collectively connected to respective antenna elements of a selected antenna array at a selected time.
