Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of final oocyte maturation in Cyprinidae fish by hypothalamic factors: a review
Peter Podhorec,Jan Kouril +1 more
TL;DR: Combining gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues with Dopamine inhibitory factors have made it possible to develop an extremely effective agent, which is necessary for the successful artificial reproduction of cyprinids.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of fish size and stocking density on the weaning success of pond-cultured pikeperch Sander lucioperca L. juveniles
TL;DR: A mass weaning trial verified experimental results showing small pikeperch juveniles to reach satisfactory growth rate and survival rate and cannibalism rates during the weaning and post-weaning periods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sperm characteristics and androgens in Acipenser ruthenus after induction of spermiation by carp pituitary extract or GnRHa implants.
Sayyed Mohammad Hadi Alavi,Azadeh Hatef,Constantinos C. Mylonas,David Gela,Maria Papadaki,Marek Rodina,Vojtech Kaspar,Martin Pšenička,Peter Podhorec,Otomar Linhart +9 more
TL;DR: Better sperm quality observed in the Ovopel group and particularly sperm motility in the GnRHa (75 μg) suggests enhancement of sperm quality in sturgeon treated with GnR Ha, and suggests involvement of dopamine inSturgeon spawning.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fertilization and hatching rates and larval performance in captive common barbel (Barbus barbus L.) throughout the spawning season
TL;DR: Investigation of changes in reproductive success including fertilization and hatching rates and larval performance as indicated by body weight and resistance to osmotic stress in captive common barbel (Barbus barbus L.) throughout the reproductive season found a high proportion of females delivered poor egg quality during the spawning season.
Journal ArticleDOI
Growth and survival rates, puberty and fecundity in captive common barbel (Barbus barbus L.) under controlled conditions
Tomas Policar,Peter Podhorec,Vlastimil Stejskal,Pavel Kozák,Viktor W. Svinger,Sayyed Mohammad Hadi Alavi +5 more
TL;DR: Growth and survival rates (specific growth rate - SGR; survival rate -S) of Barbus barbus L. were recorded in captivity during three years from the larval period (final body weight - W = 0.2 ± 0.03 g; SGR = 13.6 ± 1.1%/day and cumulative survival - S = 76.0 ± 2.5%) to the first reproductive season as mentioned in this paper.
