Journal ArticleDOI

Selenium biochemistry and its role for human health

TL;DR: This review summarizes the most recent findings on the biochemistry of active selenium species in humans, and addresses the latest evidence on the link betweenselenium intake, selenoproteins functionality and beneficial health effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

The fate of mercury species in a sub-arctic snowpack during snowmelt

TL;DR: In this article, an extensive mercury study was conducted prior to and during the annual melting of a snowpack in a sub-arctic site along the Hudson Bay (Canada), and gas-phase measurements showed that the snowmelt coincides with an elemental mercury (Hg°) pulse in the snowpack air far above ambient levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Speciation analysis of mercury by solid-phase microextraction and multicapillary gas chromatography hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry.

TL;DR: An analytical approach for speciation analysis of mercury at ultra-trace levels on the basis of solid-phase microextraction and multicapillary gas chromatography hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma-time-of-flight mass spectrometry is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simultaneous multi-elemental speciation analysis of organometallic compounds by solid-phase microextraction and multicapillary gas chromatography hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple, rapid and accurate method on the basis of solid phase microextraction (SPME) in combination with multicapillary gas chromatography hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ICP-TOFMS) was developed for simultaneous speciation analysis of 10 organometallic compounds of mercury (including inorganic mercury), tin and lead.
Journal ArticleDOI

A systematic approach to the accurate quantification of selenium in serum selenoalbumin by HPLC-ICP-MS.

TL;DR: Two different methods are for the first time systematically compared for the determination of selenium in human serum selenoalbumin (SeAlb) and the concentrations of seenium associated with SeAlb, GPx and SelP species in such commercially available serums are reported.
