On formulas for the Rayleigh wave speed

TL;DR: In this paper, a formula for the speed of Rayleigh waves in isotropic materials is obtained by using the theory of cubic equations, expressed as a continuous function of a certain material parameter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formulas for the Rayleigh wave speed in orthotropic elastic solids

TL;DR: In this article, the speed of Rayleigh waves in orthotropic compressible elastic materials are obtained in explicit form by using the theory of cubic equations, and different formulas are obtained by using different forms of the (cubic) secular equation.
Journal ArticleDOI

On Rayleigh waves in incompressible orthotropic elastic solids.

TL;DR: It is shown that inequalities on the material constants that ensure positive definiteness of the strain-energy function guarantee existence and uniqueness of the Rayleigh wave speed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of initial stress on the propagation of surface waves in a layered half-space

TL;DR: In this paper, the combined effect of initial stress and finite deformation on the speed of Rayleigh waves is analyzed and illustrated graphically, and it is shown that in many cases, as is to be expected, the effect of a finite deformations is very similar to that of an initial stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

An approach for obtaining approximate formulas for the Rayleigh wave velocity

TL;DR: In this article, an approach based on the least square principle was introduced for finding analytical approximate formulas for the Rayleigh wave velocity for isotropic elastic solids and anisotropic elastic media as well.
