A switched power converter for a recreational vehicle includes a housing and a switched power supply. The switched power supply has a switch and at least one energy storage component, the switch controlling the supply of power to the energy storage component. The output of the energy storage component is a regulated DC output voltage. A controller generates a switching control signal for controlling the state of said switch. A protection circuit is connected to the controller for protecting the switched power supply from damage resulting when a reverse battery connection is made. The circuit also includes a controller for controlling the pulse-width of the control signals input to the switch. A fan may be provided on the housing which is selectively enabled to move cooling air over the switched power supply only when a detected temperature exceeds a threshold level. The controller may be disabled when an ambient temperature exceeds a threshold level. An optical coupler is utilized in a voltage feedback circuit. The voltage feedback circuit is compared to a current level to control the pulse-width of the pulse signal supplied to the switch. An overvoltage protection circuit is connected to the controller for protecting the switched power supply from damage resulting from an overvoltage condition.

Power converter with overvoltage protection

A power supply for providing a plurality of regulated voltage levels while protecting the power supply from damage due to fault conditions. The power supply provides apparatus for rectifying AC input power and, by means of a DC to DC converter, supplies a DC voltages to the output terminals.

Multivoltage, regulated power supply with fault protection

A high voltage electrostatic spray coating power supply which turns-off automatically when an overvoltage and/or overcurrent is detected, thereby reducing electrical shock and ignition hazards when spraying in an explosive atmosphere. Included is an unregulated DC supply, a DC voltage regulator, an inverter, and a multiplier of the capacitor/diode type which applies high DC voltage to an electrostatic spray gun. Ground return current from the multiplier output to a common internal ground lead is monitored and if it exceeds a predetermined selectable maximum is effective, via a turn-off circuit, to a) turn-off the DC regulator and b) short-circuit the regulator output and inverter input to the common ground. This prevents power transfer between the unregulated DC source and the voltage multiplier, as well as discharges electrical energy stored in the regulator smoothing capacitors and in the multiplier transformer. An overvoltage circuit is also included to independently turn-off the power supply when the regulator output voltage exceeds a predetermined maximum.

High voltage power supply with overcurrent protection

A system to control the output voltage of a power converter in response to a specific load battery condition. The system contains a power converter, a TCMS interface attached thereto and a controller for selectively and/or adaptably changing the magnitude of converter output voltage. A control module is incorporated in the system to automatically change converter output voltage up or down in response to the load (input) voltage. The module contains a microcontroller to sense the battery (input) voltage process said input voltage with an analog-to-digital converter. The microcontroller is programmed to execute a series of routines to determine the proper charging voltage for the system. Thereafter, the control module communicates this information through the interface of the power converter to cause the power converter to charge at the optimum voltage. In the alternative, a plug-in component containing passive circuitry may be used to manually signal the power converter to charge at a predetermined voltage.

A switching voltage regulator (86) is controlled to produce a low output voltage when the power is first turned on and subsequently to produce a high output voltage after a predetermined length of time has elapsed, thereby eliminating overloads due to initial surge currents.

Stabilized switching voltage regulator comprising means for preventing overloads due to initial surge currents

A controlled rectifier is connected in multiple across a nonregulated d.c. source which supplies operating energy to a transistorized d.c. to d.c. converter apparatus. Also connected across the source, oppositely poled, is a Zener diode with a reverse breakdown voltage greater than the normal source voltage but less than the breakdown potential which damages the transistors in the voltage regulator portion of the converter. A gating signal is applied to the controlled rectifier if Zener diode breakdown occurs due to a sustained increase in source voltage. A fuse interrupts the leads from the source when the resulting high current flows through the controlled rectifier and protects the transistors from damage. Another Zener diode is connected, with reverse polarity, across the connections between the regulator and inverter portions of the converter. Its reverse breakdown voltage is selected just above the normal regulated output voltage, but low enough to protect the transistors in the inverter circuits. This second Zener diode also supplies a gating signal to the controlled rectifier, if breakdown occurs, to protect against an overvoltage due to a fault in the regulator circuits. Additional Zener diodes may be used in similar manner to protect against overvoltage faults at other points in the converter apparatus.
