Testing of the Modal Dynamic Equivalents Technique

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the effectiveness of the modal analysis approach using a realistic power system model and show that it is suitable for use in large scale production studies, but their applicability for large scale studies has not been clearly established.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydraulic Unit Dynamic Performance Under Normal and Islanding Conditions -- Analysis and Validation

TL;DR: The requirements for good stability of speed control under islanding conditions or other isolated modes of operation can be in direct conflict with the parameter settings required for fast plant response under synchronous operation on the interconnected network of which Ontario Hydro forms a part.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of Turbine Generator Overspeed Controls on Unit Performance Under System Disturbance Conditions

TL;DR: The speed governing systems of many large thermal generating units include auxiliary control features designed to assist in limiting unit overspeed following load rejection as mentioned in this paper, which could adversely affect the performance of the units under system disturbance conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Non-Iterative Transient Stability Program Including the Effects of Variable Load-Voltage Characteristics

TL;DR: In this paper, a non-iterative method of solving the algebraic equations involving only direct matrix multiplication is discussed. But the results of computer tests on a complex multi-machine system demonstrating the importance of load modelling and the effectiveness of the new proposed non-interactive solution technique are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stability Performance of 555 MVA Turboalternators - Digital Comparisons with System Operating Tests

TL;DR: In this article, a comparison between operating tests on 555 MVA turbo-alternators and computer simulations of these machines connected to a complex power network was made using two sets of alternator stability data -one set calculated on the basis of standard ANSI definitions, and the second set derived from appropriate field measurements on the alternators, using frequency response techniques.
