Control of a digital communication system having a plurality of communication lines on which signals are transmitted and received is implemented using a variety of methods and systems. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method is implemented where the signals are affected by interference during transmission and each of the communication lines has at least one transmitter and at least one receiver. A model is created of the interference characteristics due to the signals carried on the communication lines. Interference characteristics for a line are determined based on the model and actual signals carried on other communication lines different from the line for which the characteristics are being determined. Actual interference is compensated for on the communication line using the determined interference characteristics.

Dynamic digital communication system control

A code division multiple access communication system transmits a pilot and traffic signal over a shared spectrum. The pilot and traffic signal have an associated code and are received over the shared spectrum. The received signals are sampled and the samples are delayed to produce a window. A weighted value for each despread pilot code window sample is determined using an adaptive algorithm. Each window sample is despread with a traffic code. Each despread traffic code window sample is weighted according to a weight corresponding to its respective pilot code sample.

Communication of interference mitigation related information between wireless devices

In a co-channel deployment of narrowband and multi-carrier technologies (e.g., a femtocell and a macrocell), a method provides cancelling of interference which treats the co-channel signals as desired signals and enhances each of them iteratively. At each iteration, each signal is demodulated and regenerated based on symbol decisions already made and a predetermined channel impulse response. To estimate the other (interfering) co-channel signal, the regenerated signal is subtracted from the aggregate signal. Simulations have shown that a method of the present invention can provide fundamental improvement in the performances of both interfering systems in as few as two iterations. The fundamental performance gain that can be obtained outweigh the required computational burden.

The present invention provides a method of processing signal data comprising generating a first clock signal and a second clock signal and processing the signal data using the first clock signal and the second clock signal. While processing the signal data, the phase difference between the first clock signal and the second clock signal is measured and corrected for so that a target phase difference between the first clock signal and the second clock signal is maintained.

A method for co-channel interference identification and mitigation employs adaptive sequence detection in connection with a model composed of a signal of interest and a combination of other signals which constitute interference in a channel of interest, wherein the signal of interest is distinguished from the interference by adaptive tracking of signal parameters of all identifiable signals. In a particular embodiment, the process involves estimating the number and time spans of co-channel interference channels based on maximum likelihood estimation and minimum description length from training information derived from a single time division multiple access packet; and then applying the estimate to mitigation of co-channel interference at a receiver. Per-survivor-processing is one technique for adaptive sequence detection.
