TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CEE3 is effective and acceptable for preventing osteoporosis and lipoprotein lipids disorder in postmenopausal women.
Abstract: A prospective double-blind study was carried out in 136 women 0.5 to 21 years since menopause (YSM) in order to demonstrate the effects of a long-acting estriol derivative-Nylestriol (CEE3) on bone loss and lipoprotein lipids. They were orally administered at 2 mg of CEE3 or placebo every 2 weeks. Among 90 subjects who finished 1 year of medication, 49 received CEE3 and 41 placebo. The results were: 1. Serum ALP, Ca/Cr and Hop/Cr in fasting urine decreased in 3 months (P < 0.05); 2. Menopause-related reduction of forearm bone density was restrained; 3. LDL-C decreased in 3 months and HDL-C increased in 6 months (P < 0.05), with no significant changes in TC and TG; 4. Side effects were mild. 1/3 of those with intact uterus had spotting and another 1/3 had moderate withdrawal bleeding after the addition of medroxyprogesterone acetate at the end of 12 months of CEE3 therapy. This study demonstrates that CEE3 is effective and acceptable for preventing osteoporosis and lipoprotein lipids disorder in postmenopausal women. Long-term application awaits further studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of two alternative basis sets to carry out practical linear response calculations for systems containing transition metal and first row atoms, which exhibit poor convergence in plane-wave based methods, is discussed.
Abstract: We discuss the use of two alternative basis sets to carry out practical linear response calculations for systems containing transition metal and first row atoms, which exhibit poor convergence in plane-wave based methods. The first approach uses augmented plane-waves as in the LAPW method, and the second uses a new mixed basis method. The relative merits and disadvantages of these are considered. We also discuss the newly introduced projector basis technique that permits Car-Parrinello scaling for the computational workload for both of these methods.

TL;DR: This work represents a rule based expert system utilized for automatic labeling and segmentation of the arterial branches across multiple views that will provide an easily reproducible method for following the temporal changes in coronary morphology.
Abstract: Coronary arteriography is a technique used for evaluating the state of coronary arteries and assessing the need for bypass surgery and angioplasty. The present clinical application of this technology is based on the use of a contrast medium for manual radiographic visualization. This method is inaccurate due to varying interpretation of the visual results. Coronary arteriography based quantitations are impractical in a clinical setting without the use of automatic techniques applied to the 3-D reconstruction of the arterial tree. Such a system will provide an easily reproducible method for following the temporal changes in coronary morphology. The labeling of the arteries and establishing of the correspondence between multiple views is necessary for all subsequent processing required for 3-D reconstruction. This work represents a rule based expert system utilized for automatic labeling and segmentation of the arterial branches across multiple views. X-ray data of two and three views of human subjects and a pig arterial cast have been used for this research.

TL;DR: In this paper, nonlinear I-V characteristics of YBa2Cu3O at different temperatures in a magnetic field of up to 5T and angles between the direction of the field and the a-b plane of 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° were measured.
Abstract: Nonlinear I–V characteristics of YBa2Cu3O y epitaxial film at different temperatures in a magnetic field of up to 5T and angles between the direction of the field and the a–b plane of 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° were measured. We find that there are the vortex glass phase and vortex liquid phase in the mixed state. The flux creep exists in the vortex glass phase, and it obviously appears in the area around the boundary between the vortex glass phase and the vortex liquid phase.
